Afraid for her life after spending ten years in an abusive marriage, Kate Finelli has to find the courage to get herself out. When she calls the sheriff’s office, she hears a familiar voice--Jack, the first man to show her love. Can Kate trust him to help her get away from the long-suffering abuse?
Jack left Harper’s Glen for a career in the FBI. He’s returned to fill in for the sheriff, the man who mentored him his whole life. With strained family ties, Jack doesn’t plan on staying in this small town for long, until a panicked call comes in from Kate. He left when she chose his brother, but must stay to help her now.
With the backdrop of a murder investigation and threatening notes, Kate and Jack find each other again. Will the tension within their family keep them apart? Or will their struggle for safety bring them together after all these years?

This is a fast paced romance mixed with some suspense. This story does deal with domestic violence.
Cleverly written and brought together.
Enjoyed the storyline and the plot.
Very believable characters and developed out well.
Enjoyable quick read.
Recommend reading.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my honest voluntary review.

This was so sweet and adorable. I loved the writing. I felt as if I was lusting for the hot doctor with Benny. I felt the irritation with her neighbor who is also a hottie. I felt with her when Henry played super loud music really early in the morning and she just wanted to sleep. I loved the descriptions of the characters and their feelings. Benny was so amusing. She is lusting for a doctor.. she is cute and sweet. She just wants to be able to have peace at night. Henry was the annoying (yet hott) playboy who didn't need to do much. He was carefree and easy going. He didn't have to be anywhere or do anything. The two interactions are very funny together, they made me laugh and they made me feel happy. This reminds me a bit of the movies where the guy helps to make over the girl so she can fall for another guy and in the process.. he falls for her and she for him. It is amazing and so much fun to read about. Henry was Benny's opposite and yet they had so much in common once they got to know each other. They are amazing together and I'm so glad I got to read about them.

He has some limitations with his injuries but she knows in her heart that her Edward is strong as ever. No matter how much Edward objects to her observations.

Edward must work past his own limitations to find his strength within. Seeing his children in a new light reaches deep in his soul and gives him the will to survive and thrive. Together they mend his broken spirit and remind each other of their love and strengths.

I received this book from Reading Alley in return for a fair and honest review.

The basic crux of this story is a battle between men and women living apart and only coming together when pheromones and nature mix together.

The Sharona (women) live in luxury and don't have any fears about anything. Anything, that is, apart from when the heat comes on them and their crystal changes colour, which lets them know that they will soon be in the mating season. This isn't a mate at first sight season, it's more like a rutting season with the Sharona mating with various men until the urge leaves her.

The Lahon (men) live in more 'rustic' accommodations and yet seem to be the happier of the two. Or at least they would be if they weren't worried about the lack of water.

The plot line of this story is fairly simple and it is obvious from the start just who the 'bad guy' is. The story lies in the detail of the hows and whys and, of course, getting the innocent party to believe ill of someone else.

Although this story does have a sort of happy ending, it is also left wide open for further stories which I will be happy to read when they come out.

The Gate II: Trespassers (1992)
The Gate II: Trespassers (1992)

Was hoping for better
I was a huge fan of the original The Gate when I was a kid and rewatched recently and still enjoyed. I am not sure I even knew they made a sequel until recently which makes sense now that I have seen it.

Glenn's friend Terry returns with two other annoying teen jerks and a pretty girl to summon another small demon into our dimension from theirs. It is all fun and games at first when they realize they can get their wishes granted like getting a vintage Corvette or lots of cash, but the fun soon fades when their gifts turn into shit. I mean literal shit (kind of weird). Things get scary then when two of the teens start transforming into weird creatures and Terry and girl "friend" have to band together to save humanity.

I don't mind dated movies since I am now dated myself, but this one just didn't work. Filmmakers of the original were surprised when it was a moderate hit, so they slapped this script together just to get something out there and it shows. The characters are one dimensional and not very funny or interesting and the plot doesn't really go anywhere.

The final 20 minutes kind of saves the film a little with some cool creature effects, but by then it is too late.
