Mission: Impossible (1996)
Mission: Impossible (1996)
1996 | Action, Mystery
The first of the Tom Cruise starring M:I films, this is actually a very different piece than some of the later entries with a smaller scale, more personal, threat than the world threatening shenanigans that would follow (note: I quite like some of the later films).

here, we have Tom Cruise's superspy Ethan Hunt on the run and trying to clear his name after being framed for the murder of his entire team (during the bravura opening section), a task that involves the now-iconic 'dangling-form-the-wires' scene when he (and the new team he puts together) has to break into the CIA headquarters in Langley to steal some data - a masterclass in suspense.

Yes, it has aged slightly (it is over 25 years old now, remember!), but still holds up surprisingly well!

Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

**Sidenote: Whenever Tom Cruise is in a movie with an interesting premise, I always weigh whether or not I want to spend 90+ minutes watching his acting. I'll never forget the couch-jumping crap on the Oprah Show, and it's all I think about when I see him.**
Edge of Tomorrow was initially the title of this film when it came out in theaters, and it's so bland, no wonder no one went to see it. I was glad when they released the movie on DVD/Blu Ray because they changed it to Live, Die, Repeat. I'm not sure why they didn't just keep the original title from the manga: All You Need is Kill (highly recommend the manga).
Tom Cruise works in this movie because his character is kind of a bumbling, self-absorbed idiot in the beginning. Aliens have invaded Earth and an attack on Normandy is launched. Cruise's character gets the power to relive each day to try to turn the tide. I don't want to give too much away as to how/why that power would exist, since it's part of the movie.
I loved Emily Blunt in the film, she was fierce and strong.
Overall, this movie was entertaining, and I can definitely re-watch this movie.

I usually find that Tom Cruise films would be a whole lot better if they didn't have Tom Cruise in them... that said, this is the best film he's done in quite a while.

Disavowed: The Downfall
Mission: impossible - Ghost Protocal- is a good movie. Other critics told me that its the best movie out of the franchise, which im like why? Yes the plot is good, the stunts are good, the action is good and tom cruise is good. Other than that i agree with @Dean, @Erika and @Kevin Phillipson. The villian is non excisting, he's their but not really. The side charcters are just their. Simon Pegg is their for comedy, Jemery Renner is their for a side charcter and Paula Patton is their to look hot. Its a downfall, from 3, which is my favorite one and to me, in my opinion is the best one.

The plot: Blamed for a terrorist attack on the Kremlin, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the entire IMF agency are disavowed by the U.S. government, while the president initiates the Ghost Protocol. Forced to go "off the grid" -- left without resources or backup -- Hunt must somehow clear the agency's name and prevent another attack. Complicating matters even more, Ethan must undertake the impossible mission with a group of fellow IMF fugitives whose actual motives are suspect.

Hopefully 5 and 6 are better. Just have to wait and find out.

I really enjoyed MI:GP, I agree that most of the cast were more like plot fillers rather than plot points (at this point) but knowing that a threat that couldn't be seen was essentially winning was rather edgey, similar to that of the movie phonebooth.
This to me was a great starter point for a new chapter.

Although there very enjoyable, the movies...they've become very....splinter cell.

Spider Robots
Minority Report- is a excellent movie. The action, the sci-fi, the future, the plot, the cast, etc. Also Steven Spilberg directs it, so thats a plus.

The plot: Based on a story by famed science fiction writer Philip K. Dick, "Minority Report" is an action-detective thriller set in Washington D.C. in 2054, where police utilize a psychic technology to arrest and convict murderers before they commit their crime. Tom Cruise plays the head of this Precrime unit and is himself accused of the future murder of a man he hasn't even met.

A excellent movie.

Why didn't more people see this?
Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski brings his unique, stunning visual splendor to this unusual sci fi tale where everything is not quite what it seems.

Tom Cruise and Andrea Riseborough are in change of keeping robotic drones which protect large machines in a future where Earth is derelict and most of humanity has relocated to a moon of Saturn or a giant orbiting space station en route to the same destination.

A mysterious spacecraft crashes to Earth and one of the occupants is saved. They also have to deal with the unruly "scavs" out to kill them. Events take an interesting turn when the real villains and heroes are revealed and I doubt you can predict the outcome.

I am usually one to say movies that are just "eye candy" don't hold my interest; however, this film has a soul which goes deeper and kept my attention and riveted throughout.

Th engaging story and interesting characters mixed well even though I may have felt I had seen some of this before. Some trappings of films like The Matrix, 2001, Solaris or Arrival are present, but the director puts his own spin and the story kept pace entirely.

Also a standout was the score by musical group M83 who had never done a soundtrack before according to Tom Cruise during the audio commentary.

Not sure why this film was lost at the box office. Could've been the anti Tom Cruise factor, crowded summer movie season or even the highbrow concept plot which meant mediocre word of mouth kept people away.

I had recalled very mixed reviews myself which is why I hadn't watched until now which was a good thing I suppose which meant I was pleasantly surprised.

Appetites for much better-than-average science fiction should give this a try.

Rage Inside: A Mysterious Man
Jack Reacher- is a good movie, it has a intresting plot, good action, good suspense and good thrills. It seems like their just wasted the support cast like Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo, Rosamund Pike, Werner Herzog and Robert Duvall. Jai Country was a great villian and he didnt ruining this movie.

Other critics aka Screen Junkies, Jeremy Jahns and Chris Stuckmann say that Jai Country ruined this film, A Good Day To Die Hard, Terminator Gensyis and Suicide Squad. Those movie were already ruined since the start. With Die Hard, we didnt need anything one, with Terminator, it was the second trailer that gave everything away and Suicide Squad it was Jared Leto, so screw them. Their were wrong. Anyways...

The plot: One morning in an ordinary town, five people are shot dead in a seemingly random attack. All evidence points to a single suspect: an ex-military sniper who is quickly brought into custody. The man's interrogation yields one statement: Get Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise). Reacher, an enigmatic ex-Army investigator, believes the authorities have the right man but agrees to help the sniper's defense attorney (Rosamund Pike). However, the more Reacher delves into the case, the less clear-cut it appears.

I liked Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher he was really intresting as the charcter.

This movie was good, but does have its downfalls.

2 is probably still too generous...
I feel like I'm being very generous giving this film a 2, but this was absolutely awful.

Bad casting, bad acting, bad script, bad plot, just bad everything. Tom Cruise was atrocious, and some of the humour in this was cringingly painful. I can see what they're trying to do with this by linking it into the wider monsters universe, but it just doesn't work.

The Mummy (1999) was a fantastic film, full of cheesy fun and humour. They've obviously tried to replicate that here but have failed miserably. If you want to watch a mummy film, don't choose this one!

Jump scares
Probably my favourite hottie movie of the year so far especially as I watched it in IMAX this afternoon this movie has it all plenty of jump scares the tension reved up Elizabeth moss acting in this movie as she was terrified by the unseen presence as no one would believe her that her dead husband was after her from the dead my favourite bit is the hospital scene where the guards are basically fighting an invisible enemy the effects in that scene wow good movie highly recommend it better movie than the mummy with tom cruise anyday

"I’m not a big fan of action movies. I usually like dark movies, but that action movie was definitely one of my favorites. One of the top five. I love Tom Cruise, I love a lot of his films. And Emily Blunt, she played such a tight role. That movie is crazy. A lot of people actually try to make movies like that, where they re-live events until they correct it. It was almost like a movie that’s so insane that it can be realistic. I feel like, for some reason, I could put myself in those shoes. Like, “Whoa, this movie could be real,” you know what I mean?"

The backing story
Had to be reinvented with a new name for the publicity
So with a story of an alien invasion in which a low tanker soldier finds himself dying but waking up the day previous every time he dies. Hence the name of the film. The film should have been really good, given that you have Hollywood superstar Tom cruise and is supported by Oscar nominee emiky blunt. But instead, the film falls short.

They spend a lot of time off of the battle field and in training and you see a lot of talking and very minimal action. The backing story for me is really good, or has the potential for it being really good. Spending most of there time running or talking in the film, cruise and blunt deliver there lines with perfect execution and I really feel that the film is let down by the writers imagination and the direction given in this film. I'd of given a higher rating if it was just that little bit more on the edge of your seat action.
