David McK (3540 KP) rated Venom: The Last Dance (2024) in Movies

The final(?) part of the Tom Hardy led Venom movies, again relying a large part on the 'star power' of its leading man, who provides the voice of Venom whilst also portraying Eddie Brock.
Despite the stinger at the end of 'Let There Be Carnage', there's no tie in to the MCU, or even to Sony's Spider-verse.
I also felt that Andy Serkis was completely and utterly wasted as Knull, whilst Rhys Ifans provided the comic relief and Chiwetel Ejiofor wasn't sure what movie he was in!

They Ain't Gonna Know What Hit 'em
Venom- was okay, i mean we finally got a venom movie. We finally got a good looking venom. We got a small cameo by she-venom which was nice, but hopefully in the sequel we get more than 5-10 seconds of screen time of she-venom. Also in the sequel we are getting carange, which was teased in the post-credit sence at the end of this movie, with Woody Harrison weird and fake red wig. Tom Hardy was a better eddie brock than Topher Grace. So thats good. Just feel like both Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams were both wasted in this film. Their are such both great/excellent actors, and their just wasted in this film.
The plot: Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake's experiments, Eddie's body merges with the alien Venom -- leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.
I cant really anything else about Venom, its just okay overall and hopefullt venom 2 is better.

Krays-y
Yet another movie glamourising the vicious real-life gangster siblings, with the principal gimmick of Tom Hardy playing both Krays through the wonders of something-or-other. Hardy is excellent as Reggie, the merely-psychotic brains of the outfit, but way over the top as Ronnie, who is portrayed as a slightly thick criminal maniac, and arguably played for laughs too. A friend of mine came out thinking this was intended to be a black comedy; she may not have been wrong.
There's a good supporting cast and it's quite well made, but the film seems much too keen to cut the Krays some slack, presenting them as roguish anti-heroes rather than the brutal thugs they actually were. The 1990 Peter Medak telling of the Krays' story was arguably more balanced - this is an uneasy combination of a 'those quaint old Brits' period drama and a modishly violent modern gangster film.

Pre-Victorian London has never looked so beautifully squalid! (4 more)
Tom Hardy unsurprisingly excels in the powerful lead role of a violent low-lifer
Genuinely fascinating insight into the broad history of the time
Strong performances all-round
An almost monochrome visual that transforms you to a dark place you're glad you can leave at the end of each episode!
A bit of a slow burner - you don't mind leaving the room for a few minutes knowing you probably wont miss that much (1 more)
A few (undeliberate?) loose ends, but maybe saved for Season 2?

Amazing
It's a fantastic movie that really shows that Sony know what they are doing when it comes to superhero/comic book movies. I know their will be many that complain that the lord isn't correct that this and that and the other shouldn't happen or should have happened and while I agree in principle. I am glad they haven't got tied up on it. It's a fantastic movie and Tom Hardy has done amazing work for this role to show the raw emotion and character of venom as well as Eddie

I thought this film really did something I wasn't expecting. Instead of focusing on the physical crime that created Ted Bundy into the infamous killer everyone knows him as today; it was refreshing to see a more emotional take on the whole events. I loved the performance of Liz. Wholly, I think this film will be disliked because it didn't divulge into the gruesome and gory deaths that we all know about, but I think the director did an amazing job of holding the perspective.
This film reminds me of the Steve Jobs film with Michael Fassbender, and also Legend with Tom Hardy.

A brilliant film and great ending....for now at least to this trilogy. Dark, gritty and brutal it doesn't feel like a comic book action hero film. It's more a harsh crime thriller! I thought Anne Hathaway was well cast as Catwoman as is Tom Hardy as Bane. The only problem I had was understanding everything Bane said through his face mask, at times the voice doesn't seem to match the villain? Only small minor gripes though, still I have to add The Dark Knight is still my favourite of the 3 with this a close second.

Watched this movie on Netflix starring Tom Hardy(Mad Max:Fury Road). It takes place entirely in his car on a 90 minute ride. He's made a choice that cost him pretty much his whole life and it all happens during this ride. He really showed his acting chops in this one. Everything happens through a series of phone calls between him and several people in his life. Takes place in England. It's all done pretty well and, though it's an odd piece of work, it keeps your interest. Turns out a little sad but worth a watch.

The most recent of the Mad Max movies (as of early 2024) and with Tom Hardy replacing Mel Gibson in the lead role, this is essentially one long car chase movie.
And the best, IMO, since 'The Road Warrior'.
This one also stars Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa - soon to have a spin-off movie of her own (albeit recast) - with a strong argument that this is really *her* movie instead of belonging to Max Rockatansky.
It helps, of course, that a lot of the (insane) stunts are real rather than SFX - for example, the polevaulters on top of cars? Real stuntmen.
