This mini-series was one of the best things that premiered in 2016. I actually liked the updates, and the changes that were made from the original le Carre novel. I loved that Burr's character ended up being female, and played by Olivia Coleman. Tom Hiddleston did fantastic as Pine, and Hugh Laurie was pitch-perfect. It also holds up through multiple viewings, which is a good thing.

Tom Hiddleston could not save this movie. There's not really any clear plot, aside from the slow degradation of society within the building. The film desperately wants to be dystopian, but gives no clear reason as to why they cannot leave. It is obvious that Tom's character leaves to work somewhere as a neurosurgeon of some sort, so clearly there is some coming and going. Perhaps the book fairs better? I could not say.

This last offering before "Infinity War" basically softens the mood but we all know what's up next: Thanos' arrival. Chris Hemsworth clearly came out of his comfort zone in this film and it didn't all have to rely on him as Mark Buffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, and the always entertaining Jeff Goldblum held their own in scenes separate and together with the God of Thunder. A must watch!!

Life in a high-rise tower falls into chaos after frequent power outages create a clash between the classes. The film was based upon the book by the same name by JG Ballard. There were obvious differences from book to movie, but the changes made sense. Tom Hiddleston did a good job as Laing, and Luke Evans was savage as Wilder. The score of the film set the perfect tone, and Portishead's cover of SOS was on point.

Loki - Season 2
Loki - Season 2
2023 | Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi
Second season of Marvel's timey-wimey TV show (yes, I stole that straight from Dr Who), picking up after the events of the first season and still starring Tom Hiddleston as Loki, who here is now 'time-slipping' between different periods of time within the Time Variance Authority (the TVA) as the Temporal Loom comes closer and closet to overloading leading to the destruction of the multiverse.

What's the Temporal Loom, you say?

You need to watch to find out!

I feel kind of bad for Crimson Peak, for one, it was marketed completely wrong. Universal marketed it as though it was a horror movie, when it couldn't really be farther from it. The inspiration for it was Rebecca and the Mysteries of Udolpho, it was a gothic romance. I liked Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska in it, but Jessica Chastain... I have nothing nice to say about her performance.

The twist was.... creepy. I can't help but wonder what the film would have been like if Benedict Cumberbatch hadn't dropped out.

Thor: God of lightning
Theres good comic book movies, theres bad comic book movies and then theres Thor.
Chris Hemsworth stars as Thor, marvels answer to Gladiator.
When a truce is broken and Thor's home comes under threat by long time enemies, he ignores the command of his Father Oden and declares war. Because of this he is stripped of his position and banished to Earth. Found by jane, an astrophysicist, he must earn his powers back, stop his untrustworthy adopted brother Loki (Tom hiddleston) and save 2 Realms from total destruction. Thor is a fun film for everyone.

Better than Peter Jackson's version
Well this definitely wasn't worse than Peter Jackson's snorefest of a Kong movie, and I'd say it's probably on par with Gareth Edward's Godzilla film.

It's a much better story and plot than Peter Jackson's but it really suffers from a patchy script and very poor character development. The CG Kong is impressive, but the slow motion effects are really overused. There are some cheesy shots - Tom Hiddleston has obviously been told to stand around "looking macho" - and the music just doesn't work. There isn't a requirement to use all of the same classic songs just because a film is set around the time of the Vietnam war!

Marvel's second Thor movie is a not especially well-judged mixture of somewhat leaden epic fantasy and cutesy, kooky rom-com. Looks spiffy throughout, but it doesn't half drag in places: you can see why they decided to shake things up so thoroughly in the third one.

The thing about the Marvel Studios films is that they are routinely so good that when one is merely a fairly competent blockbuster, as is the case here, it does feel unreasonably disappointing. Apart from the sluggish pace and mishandled humour, the main problem here is that the script doesn't feel particularly well-focused or engaging, with the new villains eclipsed by Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and a reliance on lavish spectacle over characters you actually care about. Still not much worse than many a successful blockbuster, but one of the more dispensable Marvel movies nevertheless.

Loki - Season 1

The most recent (at the time of writing) of Marvels post-Endgame TV series (after both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and, once again, this is a very different beast than any of those two previous.

In this one, Tom Hiddleston portrays Loki, as he was just after stealing the Tesseract during the time travel heist of Avengers: Endgame ie before this version of him had lived through those events that occurred after Avengers Assemble (eg Thor: Dark World, Ragnorak, Infinity War etc etc) and is almost immediately arrested by the Time Variance Authority (the TVA), an organisation whose sole purpose is to police the 'sacred timeline'.

Over the course of the series, things prove not always to be as they seem, with this series also (or so I've heard) leading directly into Marvels phase 4 of the MCU.

I'd say it's because it's slow. There's a lot of exposition and it can be draggy. That would be why I'd rate it lower. Worth watching, just be aware.

I disliked the show completely, the only reason I rated it as high as a 5 is because when I averaged the ratings for each episode, the 2 good episodes outweighed the other trash episodes.
It was boring, it turned Loki into a vanilla-boring character, and the writing was terrible. The only reason I continued after the 3rd episode is because of Hiddleston, as I'm a huge fan, and he said that eps 4 and 5 were where it got more interesting. Episode 4 was an abomination. The plot was nonsensical and Hiddleston's acting was cringey. Seriously, the Ragnarok flashdance hair flip occurring multiple times was odd and annoying. I'm in the minority, I apparently watched a completely different show. It caused me to have zero interest in the MCU beyond Shang Chi.
