Quilted Devotions: 24 Biblical blocks by Lisa Cogar
Genre: craft, quilting, art
Rating: 5

Lisa Cogar has assembled 24 beautiful quilt blocks, each representing parts of the Bible. Some are traditional and have been used over the years like Jacob’s Ladder, and others were created by Cogar such as Joseph’s Coat, Hosanna, and Crown of Thorns. Each block has a Bible verse with it. There is a world of possibilities—and stories—to explore within the pages.

This is an awesome quilting book. It’s designed for intermediate to experienced quilters. The patterns and graphs are very easy to follow, and the blocks are beautiful and inspiring.

Recommendation: Intermediate to experienced quilters.

clear patterns with lots of pictures (0 more)
Quirky
Well these are not your traditional idea of toys.

Some are frankly a bit odd looking. When looking though the book I sometimes thought "That looks like someone has made a toy pattern from a kids picture." They are often quite weird looking, and yet strangely appealing.

If you like slightly odd toys... this is definitely the book for you.

The patterns themselves are clearly written, with lots of colourful pictures and full colour charts where needed.

So far I have made a black Rill Raccoon as my 10 yr old fell in love with the idea of a Ninja raccoon... and I will be making a LOT more

At first, I must admit, I wondered what a Sherlock Holmes story that had not been written by Arthur Conan Doyle would be like.

And then I listened to this.

Set in the 'traditional' Sherlock Holmes setting of late in Queen Victoria's reign (in this case, after Reichenbach Falls) - instead of the more contemporary setting popularised by TVs Sherlock - this did take me a bit to get into.

However, it is impeccably produced and acted - even if it relies quite heavily on flashbacks - taking in such key characters as Sherlock himself, Dr Watson, Sherlock's brother Mycroft and Professor Moriarty, in a mystery around the kidnapping of the Queen!
(I was never taught that in school …)

This is one of the very few of my top top favourite books! It is the kind that sucks you in and refuses to let you put it down. I love the spin off the traditional fairy tales with such clever changes to them i love figuring out how they link back to them. The relationships berween the characters are complicated and imaginative- i love it. The plot is well thought out and so descriptive,. If you love fantasy, romance, adventure and shouting at the book for the charcters to not do that... then you are in for a treat. You have to give this book i try (You will not regret it!)
