Great movie to show culture to kids
Since the movie is based in the Polynesian islands and does have some focus on ancient traditions, it gives way for parents to have a discussion about the importance of culture and traditions in not just the Polynesian islands, but all families. The movie has a good storyline and soundtrack. It is worth watching as a family.

Are you looking for a book about different Asian cultures and other traditions? I found one that talks about their Moon Festival. It is good to learn about different cultures and not change that culture because we do not like it. We should try and understand it.

“Our Moon Festival” by Yobe Qui is a beautiful picture book about three different families and how they celebrate the Moon and their traditions. The first one is about a Chinese festival and talks about Singapore. The second story talks about the Vietnamese and their lovely traditions. The last story is about the Japanese and how they celebrate the holiday with their traditions.

This book shows and illustrates the holiday; it talks about what is similar and how they are different. The illustrations in the book are displayed well and beautifully. The images are bright and colorful. Great for children and parents to learn about Asian communities and a bit of Asian culture.

Children will want to learn more about these three Asian countries, Japan, Singapore, Chinese, and the culture. Children want to learn about the Moon Festivals. I think they are different but similar. I enjoyed learning about other holidays and the traditions of different cultures. I enjoy learning about the Our Moon Festival.

Another contribution from this bright, familiar series. this book can quickly become a favourite and whilst this one is particular to the holiday season, Caillou has several different adventures for your child to pick up. The idea of being able to support a little one in the exciting build up to Christmas alongside introducing them to the wider world and traditions of other cultures is a wonderful idea and one to be applauded. Who knows, reading this book may add to your own christmas traditions.

Fun look at Christmas traditions with Amelia's literal twist. Nothing out of the ordinary for the series, but still fun.

"A collection of short stories that focus on the holidays in America and unpack the ridiculousness of so many universal but also intimate traditions. I tend to read part of it every holiday season and laugh very hard out loud each time."

A Look at Christmas Traditions Past and Present
Have you ever wondered why we celebrate Christmas the way we do? If so, this book is for you. It takes a look at four categories: food, entertainment, sights and sounds, and society. Each category gets several chapters that focus on specific things like mince pies or candy canes, Rudolph, lights, and Christmas cards. We get a look at the origins, the rise, and sometimes the fall, of these old traditions.

This book is purely looking at the secular, pop culture celebration of Christmas, although the religious aspect does pop up occasionally, most noticeably in the chapter on “Silent Night.” A couple of chapters seem a bit vague, and the writing can be dry at times, but those are minor complaints. On the whole, this was a fascinating look at where our traditions came from, both those we still use today and those that have faded over time. I am not familiar with the author’s pod cast, but my understanding is much of this material first appeared there. As a Christmas lover, I enjoyed learning more about the holiday. If that’s you, you’ll enjoy this book as well.

Brotherly Love...to another level!
I love books based in different countries other than the UK or the US. Reason being a good book helps you explore these new destinations and learn about different cultures and traditions.

I love reading books based in India. Maybe it is because I am Indian but I love learning about the country my family immigrated from. India is where my roots are and it's a completely different world.

The lowland is based in Kolkata or Calcutta as it was called back then. Although that is not part of the India I am from, it is very interesting how there are so many different traditions in the same country.

"I first saw this movie when I was a little girl. I was so drawn to Amy Irving, her personal style in this film. I loved this story of a progressive, intelligent, Jewish New Yorker who was so bonded to her grandmother, but not necessarily to her cultural traditions. And what a great romance! There is nothing else like this movie."
