MelanieTheresa (997 KP) rated The Rise of Magicks (Chronicles of The One #3) in Books

A wonderful end to a fantastic trilogy.
The conclusion to this trilogy was everything I wanted it to be and more. A truly beautiful ending. I want to be very mindful of spoilers so as not to ruin the magic (see what I did there?) for other readers.
The evolution of Fallon's relationship with Duncan was exactly right; I love him for her. In fact, I loved all of the relationships in this story.
When they travel to New York, back to where it all began, I could still picture everything the way it was described in the first book, overlaying the current state of things in my mind. This is great storytelling, in my opinion. I could see Arlys at the news desk next to the corpse of her co-worker. I could see Fred and Arlys traversing the tunnels. I could see a frightened Lana discovering her powers.
There are deaths, of course, because, you know, war. One absolutely heartbreaking death in particular - and the characters' reactions to it - literally brought tears to my eyes.
The emotions throughout this story are so powerful. You can FEEL their triumph, their heartbreak, their joy, their rage.
And, while this is classified as fantasy, the entire story certainly feels like a commentary on modern society, no?

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Vampire Debt (Supernatural Battle: Vampire Towers #2) in Books
Jan 8, 2021
This has been borrowed from the Kindle Unlimited ;Library.
This pretty much carries on from the last with Basi at her grandmothers funeral. Afterwards she learns some things about her grandmother and her estate that has her marvelling at her secretiveness. Basi also has plans for the Indebted. She wants to undergo the fourth blood exchange so she can begin to have a group of Indebted away from the tower so they can have some freedom but the fourth exchange has been given the no go by King Julian.
It does seem to be getting a little complicated this trilogy. There is so much going on at times that I get a little overwhelmed. I won't spoil it by listing things because I think you need to try this series for yourself.
All I want is for Basi and Kyros to get together because the tension and the emotions between them are so high at times. They've've both lied to each other at time so I really don't know if I get Kyros' anger at the end of this.
The game between these two warring families is very likely to destroy everyone if it keeps going for much longer. It needs to come to an end.
I need to finish this trilogy to see how it all ends.

Kate (493 KP) rated Left For Dead (Morecambe Bay Trilogy #1) in Books
Oct 19, 2020
This was the first book in Morecambe Bay trilogy. It took me a few chapters to get into.
As the book when back from present date to the past it was easy to get the full story. Also as some chapters were written from Charlotte's perspective and some were from Will's you got to see each character and how they were feeling and how they thought. The story flowed really well. I did guess most of what happened that evening but it was good to see it all explained in full.
Throughout the book Charlotte did change and it a good way. She was slightly annoying to begin with but then she did grow on me.
The end of the book tied everything together and I thought this was from the end but there were a couple of chapters at the end of the book which were from the new book. They really intrigued me. Some mystery trilogy's have some of the same characters but it will be a different story but the second book seemed to continue the story. I enjoyed this book so much that ended up buying the second book in the trilogy straight away. Normally I would wait and go onto another book but this one I had to read the second one.

David McK (3496 KP) rated Dark Force Rising (Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy, #2) in Books
Aug 27, 2021
The mid-part of Timothy Zahn's 'Heir to the Empire' series, which many - myself included - feel should have been used for the basis of the sequel trilogy. Mainly because this has the one thing that trilogy lacked: an over-arching plot!
Now considered non-canon, this series is set five years after the events of 'Return of the Jedi', where Coruscant has now become the seat of the New Republic rather than of the Empire, and where Leia and Han are expecting twins, just as Grand Admiral Thrawn - a character who has made the jump to canon - returns from his mission to the Outer Rim for The Empire and launches a campaign against the forces of the New Republic.
In this mid entry to the series, Leia has to convince the Noghri that The Empire are not who they say they are, whilst Luke hears rumours of a Jedi Master C'Boaoth who has come out of hiding (and is secretly working alongside Thrawn and co) and hopes to learn more about the ways of the Force from said Master.
Meanwhile, Hand and Lando find themselves seeking down the location of the legendary Katana fleet: a fleet of dreadnaughts that went missing during The Clone Wars (here, 50 or so years prior), and that may swing the balance of power in the Galaxy ...

Fern’s Wing ( Sisters of Hex: Fern book 2)
By Bea Paige
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fern's decision changed everything. Now she must live with the consequences not only affecting her but the people she loves, even the ones who find it hard to love her in return.
Trapped in the Shadowlands, Fern must put her trust in the Angels of Death and adapt to her new surroundings. When a disturbing message is delivered about her mother, Fern defies the trio and take matters into her own hands.
Fern's Wings is the second book of Fern's trilogy and continues the Sisters of Hex story. To get a full picture of the overarching storyline you might wish to read Accacia's trilogy first.
The Sisters of Hex series - five sisters, five clans, one curse and a whole host of paranormal creatures.
I really like the concept and world building in this series of books I like the characters and storyline. This one was more about Fern building her strength and relationships with her men and it was good but my mind did wander off sometimes. All the action came in the last 4 chapters where we catch up with old friends from the first set of sisters of hex. Overall though it was still a good book.
