Fantastic Fiction
As a fan of true crime podcasts, I have very few fiction podcasts in my favourites (mostly things like King Falls AM, for the wackiness) and I tend to avoid crime fiction, primarily because the real thing is better, crazier, and so much more twisted.
The Angel of Vine is a sublime fictional podcast, written to sound like true crime in the Noir tradition being retold in the modern podcast format. The podcast begins with the discovery of some old cassette tapes by the family of a deceased ex-cop turned private detective, and their choice to involve a podcaster/reporter to help them investigate the story enshrined in those cassettes.
Following the investigation into the murder of a young actress in Hollywood, the podcaster makes use of the recordings to tell Harry's story.
Voiced by some amazing talent (including the gorgeous growl of Joe Manganiello, the incomparable Alan Tudzyk, and the delightful Mischa Collins) the story is gripping, compelling, and extremely difficult to not binge.
For fans of true crime, crime drama, and any sort of Noir (Sam Spade eat your heart out), this is a podcast to listen to, save, and listen to again later.

A decent crime drama based on a true story of a murdering couple in the 1940's and 50's. It has an exceptional cast, but wanders between crime drama and the sub stories a bit too much. A slow paced film without a lot of action. Ok but could have been a lot better.

Incredible series, extremely well produced
While it is apparent there are documents left out of this series, it has been masterfully put together by the documentary's director. A true crime series following convicted criminal Steven Avery and possible misconduct and corruption claims against the federal government, it is absolutely gripping from start to finish. Definitely recommended.

Paranormal activity and a good true crime
And That's Why We Drink is a podcast hosted by Kristina, Em, and Geio the Dog. Em gives a paranormal (usually hauntings) story, while Kristina recounts a true crime story. Together they make the beginning of each week a little less dreadful. On the first of each month there is a "Listener's Stories" episode, which as the name implies, includes the stories that listener send in, whether paranormal, murder, or both. Each week has new and interesting stories for fans of both genres.

I'm an avid reader, though my tastes have changed over time. I used to read true crime non fiction, but I have moved into mystery literature. (Though I don't typically read series.) I also love Margaret Atwood and Alice Munro.

I read this book in college back in 2004. I really enjoyed it, as I do all books involving true crime. This book was exceptionally intense becasue of the sensitive subject matter, i.e. the serial killer being a young boy. Very good read.

Hard to understand some interviews
In Depth True Crime for the hardcore
A True-Crime podcast looking back on the murder of a narcotics cop and his father in the 1970s. The whole series is about this one crime looking at the larger picture of what was going on in Greenville SC at the time and if the wrong man; Charles Wakefield; was sent to death row for the crime.

This podcast leaves no stone unturned and the amount of investigation and time put into it is truly inspiring. Unfortunately, I don’t really have the attention span for it, I think I prefer my true crime in much broader brushstrokes this was just too dragged out to hold my interest. Many of the interviews are understandably with very old individuals who I found difficult to understand (accents may be an issue for me as well.) I’m sure for some who really want to be totally in on everything this will appeal. There is a whole community really invested in this investigation.

I’ve listened to 17 episodes but fallen asleep during many of them and i don’t think I’m going to finish it. If they do a summary episode may return for that.

Interesting True crime drama
A good drama based on a true story. A detective makes a decision to try and find a missing girl that will have repercussions for the case. The first few episodes were good as the police do the detective work to try and find a missing girl. They establish a suspect and try their best to find out where she is and what happened to her. The latter episodes deal with the court case and legal disputes over certain evidence. The beginning is like many other crime dramas, very tense trying to find a suspect and build up evidence. However the 2nd half of the series is bogged down by the legal red tape over the law of questioning suspects. Hard to believe that the law still hasn't been changed yet around this ruling. It is more interesting as it's a true crime drama though.
