American Vandal | Official Trailer

From co-creators Tony Yacenda (Pillow Talking) and Dan Perrault (Honest Trailers), and showrunner Dan Lagana (Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous), American Vandal is a half-hour true-crime satire that explores the aftermath of a costly high school prank.

Beautifully shot but no way as good as other true crime documentaries
Netflix is an absolute master when it comes to true crime documentaries. However, unlike Making a Murderer and The Keepers, this is a standalone film and it does not explore the crime in detail. As a result it falls short in comparison to the others.

The film is about the notorious 1996 case of a six year old beauty pageant participant, JonBenet Ramsey, who was found dead in her own house even though her family said she had been kidnapped.

One of the most important things about this documentary in particular is the fact that it is completely in the perspective of random people who have no connection really with the crime itself. Instead by creating a fake film about this true crime, they reveal the actors' own perceptions and prejudices against the case and against the people involved.

It is also vital to notice while the other documentaries were created to raise awareness and educate the public about levels of corruption in society and institutions - this seemingly does nothing but instead actually is a bit of a mockery towards the young victim of this crime. The actors throw out wild theories instead, and so you know little about what actually happened.

On the upside it is shot absolutely beautifully, so it looks like an art film. A bit disappointing really.

My favourite podcast
MFM is hilarious, I love listening to it as much as I can. I am a massive fan of true crime and this podcast has it all. It doesn't take itself too seriously but covers sensitive subjects with respect (and a few giggles)

Abducted in Plain Sight
I sat down on Friday night and watched this documentary. From a dubious position, my wife wanted to watch it and i had doubts.
Was so good. Obviously its not everyones cup of tea but the way the story pans out is amazing. And if it wasnt true story it would be too far-fetched to make up a story like this.
I would seriously recommend this to anybody that likes true life crime movies and programmes.
I feel so sorry for this family and i would never spoiler any film as it would ruin and alter the vision experience you recieve

"Another documentary. [Director Errol Morris has] got so many movies that I love and there are so many other documentaries that I love too. But The Thin Blue Line is interesting to choose right now because now there is a resurgence of true crime documentaries — a lot of them [are] series like Making a Murderer or The Jinx. But Thin Blue Line was kind of the original true crime documentary that really sort of made you question police tactics and I think anyone who’s into Making a Murderer or Serial or The Jinx — or any of these shows right now, and podcasts — and hasn’t seen Thin Blue Line should check that out. It’s just a well-made movie in general but it’s also a fascinating story of a crime that someone may or may not have done."

I must say that the title and the synopsis had me intrigued but I practically pulled out my hair as I found this to be a dull read and forced myself to finish reading it. Reading true crime has always captivated me but unfortunately this one just fell short.

Lighthearted, great banter, with recaps of murders that the hosts have researched and retell in their own unique personality. Kindness, crime, foul language and lots of laughs. (0 more)

Hysterical, and a little eerie.
Two true friends with a passion for true crime take an oftentimes hysterical, but also sad and somber look at murder cases over the centuries. It's a great, quick, lightweight fix for folks who enjoyed Dirty John, Wrongful Conviction, and This American Life. It's light on the editing, and high on the community connection. They also poke at things that are creepy and while not all the murders have resolution, there's always something interesting and nothing that'll give you nightmares.

Long-time friends Alvin and Fran talk about the true crime you probably haven't heard of, because most podcasts cover the white male serial killers and not the minority serial killers covered in Affirmative Murder. Sprinkled with adult language, mood lightening occasional humour, and conversations about difficult topics, these two manage to be irreverent, informative, intelligent, and enlightening.
They don't mind if you look sideways at them when you pass them on the street, as long as you look at everyone else with suspicion too.
