graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Sisi: Empress on Her Own: A Novel in Books

I commend the author in all the research she did as I think she did an astounding job bringing Sisi to life, showing both her strengths and weaknesses. Most everything was brought to life in a way that was easy to visualize. However, in this book I found there to be more telling than showing as far as politics go, which could be a tad boring, plus I felt there were redundancies here and there. I didn't notice any major anachronism other than one phrase that jolted me out of the book that I dearly hope is not in the final edition (<a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_time_no_see" targeet="_blank">"Long time no see."</a> if interested). The author provides a thorough section where she notes what was taken from history, leaving me to conclude what must be fiction. I found the fictional parts to be either likely or at least not implausible, excepting a couple incidents in Rudolf's (Sisi's son) youth that felt odd. I won't even touch on Sisi as a person, she's too complex and confounding to decribe in few words, but I felt that Pataki did the best she could at humanizing her while remaining true to her historical record.
Sisi (and the aforementioned The Accidental Empress) are a worthwhile addition to the genre that show a royal family not much touched upon in historical ficiton.

When he is truly down on his luck financially, he hears about a job offer to good to be true. Why not just do some "driving" to earn some extra money? Who cares what the cargo is right? He decides to take the job and then decides having money in his life is too good to pass up. His financial situation improves substantially and he then decides to try and make up for lost time with his family.
Things with his new career become complicated and he even is becoming known to the DEA. He unknowingly evades them several times as his stock among the cartel improves.
I thought the film started slow and for some reason the editing in the first hour really bothered me. It seemed like a bunch of random scenes put together in a random way. Not sure if I can explain why.
The acting and screenplay were sometimes good, sometimes not good. I thought Eastwood the actor was amazing, but Bradley Cooper and Laurence Fishburne just phoned this one in.
The 2nd half of the film was much more interesting and won me over in the end. The fact that Eastwood is almost 90 himself and is still acting and directing is incredible and I salute him wholeheartedly for that.

My Thoughts: What would you do if you found a sick stranger on your doorstep? That's what Linda Jensen came home to one afternoon that changed her life. Her caring changed another persons life. It showed "Jay" what true caring and trust really was.
This was an interesting read that keeps the readers' attention. All the characters were powerful in this novel and helped in supporting the storyline.
This novel is about trust, integrity, loyalty and loving God. It's about trusting God in every situation. The author has a way of writing to keep readers' interest throughout the book.
This is a good story for everyone.
