B (15 KP) rated Stuff You Missed in History Class in Podcasts
Jan 10, 2018
Stuff you Missed in History Class is all the things I wish I would have actually learned in school. From the stories you think you have already heard to things you would not think to look into this podcast covers them all. In the coverage, the overviews are often more informative then hours in the classroom. I love listening to Tracy and Holly tell the well-researched and well thought outlines full of what is promised history. This podcast leaves out most of the personal feelings of the hosts, which is very nice as well. Episode suggestions: New England Vampire Panic and Building Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012) in Movies
May 12, 2018
When I heard that the same guy that directed Wanted was going to direct the movie version of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, I was game. I was looking so forward to this film.
The first thing I found kind of off about the film was the casting of Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Walker. He was just a little wooden, and it didn't work for me.
Now, Dominic Cooper as Henry Sturges was a great casting. Yes, I read the book, so I knew what Sturges was. The scene with Cooper wearing the pair of sunglasses? Amazing.
Overall, this alternative history was good, but not as well executed as the book.

Night of the Living Re-run receives a generous one star. Full review here.
Coyote Moon is a 3.5 star read. Click for full review.
Unfortunately I never got around to a review for the best story in the volume, [b:Portal Through Time|293358|Portal Through Time (Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2, #6)|Alice Henderson|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1173467827s/293358.jpg|284646], which is a solid four-star read.
Recommend either getting the books used or from the library, $10 seems rather pricy for what there is.

Dana (24 KP) rated The Ruby Circle (Bloodlines, #6) in Books

I freaking loved this book! This series was so amazing, and so was the ending. All of the twists and turns were very well laid out. The calmer parts of the story were well integrated into all of the action that was happening. If you have not picked up the Vampire Academy Series or haven't started the Bloodlines Series, do it now. You definitely won't be disappointed! Thank you so much, Richelle Mead, for these amazing stories! I can't wait to see what you are going to put out next! David McK (3600 KP) rated Hammered (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) in Books
Jan 28, 2019
Third entry in Kevin Hearne's 'Iron Druid' series which, I felt, is a strong contender in being the best of them so far.
As the third novel, however, this is one that you would need to read the earlier entries first, as it ties up loose plot points from the first two stories and, in particular, follows on from the previous ('Hexed'), in which Atticus agreed to help the vampire Leif as well as the werewolf Gunnar to kill Thor, the Norse God of Thunder (yes, that Thor).
Fast moving, laugh out loud funny in parts and with some solid action scenes, I was mightily impressed by this entry.

David McK (3600 KP) rated Blood Rites (The Dresden Files, #6) in Books
Jan 28, 2019
Book number 6 in Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series, and the quality shows no signs of letting up.
This time, Harry Dresden is hired by his vampire acquantaince Thomas Raith to investigate a series of highly unusual murders surrounding an adult movie maker, which leads to further revelations (previously hinted at in earlier books) about Harry's own mysterious past, and just why Thomas has been an occassional ally ...
While I reckon it is probably possible to read this as a 'stand-alone' novel, it's probably best to have read the previous five books first in order to understand a few of the references made during the course of this one.
