"S.. S... Smokin'!"
Mid 90s mix of CGI and live action, that is perfectly suited to it's main star (Jim Carrey, then just coming off his success in Ace Ventura) rubber faced antics, and that also had an acting credit 'introducing Cameron Diaz' in what was her breakout role as Tina Carlyle, the club singer who bored bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) falls for at roughly the same time he discovers the Mask, that transforms him into - basically - a 'real life' Tex Avery cartoon character!

Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Bruce Almighty (2003) in Movies

Jim Carrey was on a winning streak in the late 90s and early 00s with films like Liar Liar, Me, Myself & Irene and of course Ace Ventura. However, perhaps my favourite of his works is Bruce Almighty. This genuinely funny comedy about a man who ends up being God was well received by critics and box-office dynamite.
Aniston plays Carrey’s wife, dealing with the strange goings on in their marriage and putting her husband straight in only a way Aniston can. It’s a classic of its time and repeat viewings only highlight how dreadful its successor, Evan Almighty actually was.

Rather ropey Omen rip-off with Richard Burton, Lino Ventura and Lee Remick (told you so). A French detective seconded to the London police (zis is ze co-production, bien sur) investigates the life of a writer and noted grump who has just had his head bashed in (Burton); the victim believed he had the power to cause disasters and gradually le inspecteur comes to agree with him.
Some genuinely interesting ideas, but a peculiar narrative structure and obviously low budget are definite limiting factors. Film makes good use of its biggest asset, Richard Burton, who gives his various misanthropic rants 110% and seems to be genuinely off his head (one wonders if he spent most of the shoot wrecked). Playing spot the cameo is also somewhat entertaining. Climax is a bit disappointing though; the whole film is never quite as chilling, powerful, or convincing as it thinks it is.

Finkle and Einhorn, Einhorn and Finkle ...
Early 90s comedy movie starring a then up-and-coming Jim Carrey (before he completely went off the rails), round about the time of Dumb and Dumber and the Mask.
Of those three, this has probably aged the least well - I would be shocked if they could get away with some of the stuff they did here nowadays (particularly the whole Einhorn and Finkle plotline).
Anyway - provided you're not too easily offended - Carrey plays the eponymous Ace Ventura, a detective who specialises in finding missing animals, and who is hired (by none other than Courtney Cox) when the Miami Dolphins mascot - an actual Dolphin - is kidnapped on the Superbowl weekend.
Which probably means more the American audiences than any other.
The film does still raise the odd wry chuckle, but I was obviously easier amused back in the day ...
