"This is another book about a man in Victorian England trying to reform and own the heart of a sex worker. It’s a theme for the Victorian period and it’s a theme for me as a reader and this psychosexual drama held my attention on every page. Very ornate descriptions of the main sexy girl’s chapped and bleeding lips, which I like. It is very rich with period sex details (the way they applied spermicide is haunting), which is primo for me."

This is a beautifully written novel that I really didn’t want to finish. It explores the gaps between science and superstition, and between friendship and romantic love. I felt immersed in 1890s Victorian England. I loved the bits about the surgeon Luke Garrett and his companion Martha who was a suffragette as well.

Quite an improvement over the previous volume! I could actually feel the grime and coal soot from the streets of Victorian England! It had a Dickens feel to it, with some darker, steampunk aspects to it! It was good enough to maintain my interest for the entirety of it, as well as keeping me on board for the new volume, LA DAMA de la MUERTE!

"Mutiny on the Bounty with Marlon Brando. After that I was like, “Man, I’m going to Hawaii or Tahiti and getting me one of them!” I mean, holy moly! [laughs] Just being out in nature like that and getting away from the hard, structured Victorian England, it’s almost like — if you look at it now — it’s like a guy going organic. [laughs] In multiple ways, I thought that was exciting."
