The maestro of dark shadows, Fritz Lang already had 14 feature films under his belt by 1931, including the much loved and much borrowed from Metropolis in 1927. It is said that he was such a slave driver with cast and crew alike that he had very few friends and was detested as a man. His work spoke for itself, however, and was always miles ahead of anything happening at the same time in Hollywood. Take the dark, sinister and serious M as an example. It tackles the subject of child abduction and murder, homelessness, crime in general and the punishment of a mob – subjects American cinema would never have touched in 1931, let alone done with such an exquisite non- melodramatic feel.
Peter Lorre as the killer compelled by his own weakness and madness gives an unfeasably nuanced performance for the era also. He is mesmerically creepy and unforgettable. Images and motifs (such as the whistle that indicates the murderer is lurking) abound, creating a landscape of pure mood and disease. As a morality tale it touches on issues of vigilantism and true justice that still has some relevance today. It also works as an entertaining thriller, and there wasn’t a minute I felt bored or distracted. The only jarring element are the scenes where Lang cuts the sound entirely to create tension and focus – they feel like technical mistakes, not deliberate choices. Otherwise, I could not have been more impressed and pleasantly surprised by this Euro classic for all time. If I were making a list of the best films ever made that disregarded the limitations of the age, then M would definitely make the cut.

My Favorite Movie of All Time
This is my favorite movie of all time. It is my number 1 movie of all time. I love this movie. Its my number 1 best movies of all time. Its number 1 of my top ten best movies of all time.
The Dark Knight- to me is perfect, it is excellent, epic and tops batman begins. This to me is the best sqeuel of all time. It does so much within 2hrs and 45mins, that you have to watch it again because it was that great.
The Plot, the suspense, the darkness, the acting, the performaces, the lines, every last detail is great.
You have lines like:
"Ya wanna know how I got these scars?"
"Why so Serious?"
"Let's put a smile on that face!".
"Some men just want to watch the world burn."
"What doesn't kill you makes you stranger."
"Its simple, we kill the Batman."
"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain".
So many great and memorable lines.
Two Words- Heath Ledger- he make his joker his own. He was so excellent and great as the joker. I even have a poster of his joker, thats how much i love this film. Heath Ledger will go down as to me the best joker of all time. He will be missed.
The Plot: With the help of allies Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman (Christian Bale) has been able to keep a tight lid on crime in Gotham City. But when a vile young criminal calling himself the Joker (Heath Ledger) suddenly throws the town into chaos, the caped Crusader begins to tread a fine line between heroism and vigilantism.
I can go on and on, on how much i love this film. If you havent seen it, than go watch it. I highly reccordmend watching this movie.

Director's Cut

I first watched the theatrical cut back in 2009 and though I was impressed, I knew that it required a second viewing to be judged fairly. This didn't happen until a couple of months ago when I was treated to the Director's Cut, a version extended by approximately 25 minutes.
The funny thing about this cut is that it is hard to see the joins, which is obviously very good, as a lot of special editions have scenes shoehorned in and held together with sellotape. But this was a smooth three hour epic, not so much redefining the genre but demonstrating how indeed, it can be done.
That in many ways was my problem the first time, that I was expecting more thrills and spills often associated with the comic genre, but was given an intellectual, character drama, played and directed so very well, that it is hard to peg this in to any particular slot. This is primarily a drama, and as such, is light on action but heavy on emotion and melodrama.
The cinematography is well conceived, though the whole film plays out in a relatively and surprisingly classical manner, sometimes at odds with story and visuals which they are showcasing.
The action, though brutal and at times rightly so, is showcasing the brutality of vigilantism, and at others, leading into a splatter territory. But on repeat viewings this holds up and once you accept that it is what it is, then this is a first class film, as well as a crackingly smooth director's cut, expanding the 153 minute version with ease, adding a few scenes to gain more context, and others snugly fitting into the original mold.
This is a fully developed adaptation of an iconic graphic novel from the 1980′s, though in that sense it is lacking some of the context of that day, but still resonates in many others. I would not have known much about this story if it had not been adapted for the screen and this is a faithful one, but I can understand the view of those who say that it is 'too' faithful, as this could have done well to employ a little more theatrical license, maybe sacrificing some of the accuracy in favor of the truth of the story.
In the end, this is what it is, and it is something special and I believe, potentially timeless
