David McK (3219 KP) rated The Saxon Wolf (Fireborn #2) in Books

The second entry in Angus Donald's Fire Born series (after The Last Berserker: An action-packed Viking adventure) and, for some reason, I'm just not feeling it.
Unlike his eminently more enjoyable (IMO) Robin Hood stories, or even the Holcroft Blood trilogy.
I'm not sure why that is: set during the dark ages in and around the time of Charlemagne (a major recurring character), and featuring a reluctant Viking berserker you would think that this ticks all the boxes, as it were.
And yet, for some reason, it just didn't click for me.
Your mileage, of course, may vary!

How to Be a Pirate (How to Train Your Dragon, #2)
This maniacally crazy story is liberally spattered with appropriately riotous illustrations and maps. Found this book to be very funny indeed. The story is filled with witty writing and funny drawings and notes ensure that this clever Viking story keeps the reader laughing. It will appeal to boys and girls.

I truly enjoyed this book - i can't give it 5* because there were a few moments I had trouble with but 4.5/4.75 ... close enough - but overall this was a solid book and very interesting. Viking stuff I didn't think would interest me but damn I had so much fun reading this. And a standalone - it wrapped up so nicely I kind of want to read it again.

What Are You?
I seen this film twice now, once back in 2019 when it came out and once couple days ago and im still confused what this film is trying to be, cause i have no idea what its surpost to be. Is it surpost to be a comedy film, a drama film, a action or all above? I have no clue.
The plot: Nels Coxman's quiet life as a snowplow driver comes crashing down when his beloved son dies under mysterious circumstances. His search for the truth soon becomes a quest for revenge against a psychotic drug lord named Viking and his sleazy henchmen. Transformed from upstanding citizen to coldblooded vigilante, Coxman unwittingly sets off a chain of events that includes a kidnapping, a series of deadly misunderstandings and a turf war between Viking and a rival boss.
If your confused as i am than dont watch this film, but if you like Liam Neeson kicking ass than watch this film.

I'm not sure why, but for some reason I haven't really connected with Angus Donald's 'Fire Born' novels, finding them to be the weakest of his three series that I have read (The Outlaw Chronicles and the Holcroft Blood series).
I don't know why that is; it's just one of those things.
However, I'll still read these novels, just not be in as much of a rush to do so as with the others.
This is the third in his FireBorn series (after both The Last Berserker: An action-packed Viking adventure and The Saxon Wolf: A Viking epic of berserkers and battle) and is also, for my money, the best of those three novels. That may be because of the nature of this - a band of travellers setting out on a quest, leading to a battle and a return home, with the author himself admitting the influence of the works of JRR Tolkien on this particular entry.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2084 KP) rated How to Train Your Dragon: Book 1 in Books

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III has to train a baby dragon to obey his commands in order to avoid being cast out of his Viking tribe. But can he do it? I enjoyed the movie, so I was looking forward to the book. Unfortunately, I just found it average with underdeveloped characters. And Toothless, the dragon, was especially annoying.
