Bond. James Bond.
The first James Bond movie, based on the 6th Bond book, and starring who is for many, arguably, the best Bond of all in Sean Connery.

Now over 60 years old (at the time I’m writing this), it’s noticeable how ‘fully formed’ the tropes of the series are here right out of the gate: the flirting between Bond and Moneypenny, the mutual respect between Bond and M, the exotic locales, the girls (for better or worse), the secret bases, the villains with a penchant for explaining their dastardly plans before letting Bond escape …

There is, however, also a reason that a later incarnation of M (Judi Dench) would call Bond something along the lines of “a dinosaur. A misogynistic relic from the Cold War …” which is also on full display here!

I suppose it was the 60s, though …

This was an enjoyable, well-researched historical fiction novel set during WW2 in Rome.
Cordelia Olivieri’s life in Rome becomes more precarious as the Italian fascists start to identify more Italians with Jewish heritage. Cordelia’s English mother was Jewish. She has a friend in the Vatican who promises to get her on a transport to England, if she will just photograph the German plans for North Africa. This seems a simple task (or not!), as the German officer in charge of the planning for Rommel has taken over Cordelia’s hotel as his centre of operations. But Cordelia complicates things somewhat when she starts to fall in love with him.
The villains in this book are thoroughly despicable, and the ‘goodies’ are in constant danger. It’s all very nail-bitingly exciting and another great read on The Pigeonhole!

I must say that I've never wanted to cry with a book before - but this book had my emotions all over the place!!!!!!!! Boy did I feel this one.

I read this for a challenge - team Centuar Baby - so of course I had to read a centaur book - I was looking through centaur related books and decided this one looked cool so hey, I'm going to get it!

I'm so happy that I did!!!!!!!!!! This book was spectacular (to me) and I truly enjoyed every darn second of it.

I loved all of the characters. I, of course, disliked the villains - but that's supposed to happen right?

I cannot wait to read what happens next, if I didn't have such a long TBR pile right now I'd start it immediately but I'm going to control myself and perhaps get it for February (or earlier, who am I truly kidding).
