LoganCrews (2861 KP) rated Road to Perdition (2002) in Movies

A rich sensory experience until around the third act when I began choking on soap - could this be the most beautiful looking + sounding mob movie out there? Maybe, what with its otherworldly Thomas Newman score (which I can't believe people complained about) and downright tantalizing cinematography, paired with such lush period detail that never feels overbearing for a single second. Unfortunately (though expectedly) *too* pristine for its own good - tries so unsubtly to be a ''''serious'''' movie that's above the violent pulp this so desperately needed. It would be another thing entirely if they replaced it with something to say but this is perhaps the most simple mob story ever told. Initially presents itself as subdued mafia eye candy, which I was on board with until the jarring tonal shift beginning with the bank heists where it reveals its moral fiber to be the cloying relationship between Hanks and this annoying kid who can't act for shit. And don't even get me started on that dumbass narration which just spoon feeds you what this is supposed to be 'about' as if it wasn't already blatantly obvious. But Paul Newman and Jude Law are swell, and it's got a fair amount of good scenes that handle the simple melodrama well. Dazzling aesthetic showcase meets cringe Oscar bait which has been rendered mostly useless now that we have other movies of the genre/premise that aren't afraid to have some bite.

BookInspector (124 KP) rated Monstress, Volume 1: Awakening in Books

This novel follows Maika Halfwolf, a teenage girl who suffered immensely after her mother’s death. She has lost one hand, but because of some science experiment, she is possessed by something very powerful. I loved the mysterious and unique characters, that fit perfectly in this strange world the author created. I really liked Maika as well, she is a very strong female protagonist, and her journey is very violent but eventful.
The narrative is quite complex and layered as well. There are many things happening in this comics at once, and it is definitely an adult book, it contains plenty of bloody killings and swearwords. The plot travels to the past, explaining some of the events, and there are these useful lectures from the professor Tam Tam, explaining many things in the book, and it is told by a cat! 😀 It has plenty of twists and turns and was an absolute pleasure to read.
So, to conclude, it is not a surprise that this series keeps winning many awards, the artwork is magnificent and the storytelling is impeccable. The characters are unique and mysterious and I loved the first book greatly. I know there will be 18 issues combined into one book and it will be released in July, and I will be saving hard to get it, it is too good to miss. 🙂 If you like fantasy comics, cats and very beautifully created characters, this book is definitely for you! Enjoy. 🙂

Before I start, just wanna point out that because of this show, to me every bad thing is now diabolical and said like karl urban...
Season 1 has come and gone and what a season it was, Karl Urban plays a badass anti hero-loving crusader of sorts whose probably in need of some anger management who reunites with his old team who seemingly left their friendship a little salty to say the least.
After managing to capture a "Hero" and a member of the 7 (team of hero's), butcher (urban) is after answers as to what happened to his missing wife 8 year's ago after she was sexually assaulted by another hero and the leader of the 7!
Things take a humorous, dark and violent twist with every move.
In a world where Superheroes are often as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and sometimes even as revered as gods. But that's when they're using their powers for good. What happens when the heroes go rogue and start abusing their powers? When it's the powerless against the super powerful, the Boys head out on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the Seven and Vought, the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets.

Lyndsey Gollogly (2893 KP) rated Double Dragons (Dragons of New York #1) in Books
May 21, 2020
They're hot as fire, and if you mess with their mate, you're bound to get burned.
Draven and Ran are dragon shifters, the fire-breathing enforcers of the shifter world. The ones they call when things go wrong. Strong, sexy and wealthy, the only thing the two partners are missing is a mate to share it all with. But that's tricky in the dragon world and after years of searching, the dragons have basically given up. That is, until a sexy, reckless human librarian lands in their path during a mission.
Melissa knows she would have been in hot water had the two handsome, powerful and mysterious men not showed up to save her butt from a group of violent men. Still, when her rescuers take her back to their New York loft, she's confronted by a mystery she never expected. Dragons and other shapeshifting creatures exist. And these dragons are definitely hotblooded.
But as the sexy dragons show Melissa all the perks of being their mate, Melissa is also uncovering the dangerous secrets of the dragon world. If she isn't willing to risk everything, their chances at a happily ever after might just go up in flames.
For a short story it wasn’t too bad at all! Terry Bolryder definitely has a style that is easy to read and also enjoyable! The sex scenes were written well and learning about the dragons is interesting. Recommended if you enjoy a fast paced shifter book.

All the Dead girls ( Graveyard Falls book 3)
By Rita Herron
When a violent storm hits Graveyard Falls, it unearths the unimaginable: skeletons of teenage girls, each dressed in white and holding a candle. It's clear to FBI agent Beth Fields that this is the work of a long-standing killer - but could it be the one she escaped years ago? She has no memory of the man who held her captive and murdered her friend. But even though someone was jailed for the crime, she's always feared that the real killer is still out there...waiting and watching.
Ian Kimball never believed his stepfather was guilty of Beth's kidnapping or the slaying of two local girls. Now Graveyard Falls's sheriff, he's determined to catch the true perpetrator. And when more young women go missing, he realizes he needs Beth's help. She is nothing like Ian expected, and everything he desires. But if they have any hope of finally ending the killer's reign of terror, Beth and Ian will need to put everything aside, including their past, their mistrust, and their growing attraction...
I loved this one and never ever want to visit Graveyard Falls! This had me guessing right to the end but once I saw Milo talking to Vanessa I thought Gotcha!!! It was a good thriller it’s good to see Beth being let to put her demons to bed!
Good read, fast paced and good storyline
