The Bird in the Bamboo Cage
4.5/5 Stars! I knew nothing about the Japanese occupation of China during WWII, but this historical, women's, fiction novel really helped fill in that gap. Take a look at my #bookreview on my blog here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2020/10/09/the-bird-in-the-bamboo-cage/

Non-Realistic Classic
The first time I read this book, I took everything at face value. I thought anything I would be reading for an English class would be a realistic piece of literature. Boy, was I wrong. This science fiction WWII book launched my love for Kurt Vonnegut’s body of work, and I am so glad for it.

It seems everyone wants to be the person to chronicle the victory of the Allied forces taking Paris back from the Nazis. This novel follows two women in their efforts to gain that title. Read what I thought of Meg Waite Clayton's historical fiction novel, The Race for Paris, here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2016/10/18/women-witnessing-wwii/

Bring the tissues
This is such a beautiful story. It is something of an emotional roller coaster of a plot set in WWII without getting too heavy. Not recommended for first five dates or immediately after any kind of loss- unless you need to "ugly cry"

In Kate Quinn’s recently released historical fiction novel she takes us to the post-WWII era, where the main plot surrounds the search for a woman known as ‘die Jägerin’ aka “The Huntress”. Find out what I thought of this novel from my latest #bookreview on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/03/08/night-witches-and-chasing-evil/

I'm not really a huge fan of WWII films, my mom used to watch them endlessly when I was a kid.
I didn't expect the movie to start off pre-Pearl Harbor. Did I need to see it again? No. There's a whole 2+ hour movie based around it. While the film is title Midway, it went through the events of the Pacific Theater up until Midway. I guess to give a background for people that weren't forced to watch WWII films as children.
The actors did a good job with their characters. The action was also very good. The film featured a lot of dive-bombing, which was both exhilarating and terrifying to watch.
The thing I liked the best was that they cast a famous Texan (Woody Harrelson) to play Admiral Nimitz, also a badass Texas. Good job, filmmakers.

I wasnt the slightest bit surprised after watching this to find out it was a Robert Zemeckis film. It centres far too much on the romance side and is very lacking in tension, action or suspense. The acting is good but nothing special, and I just found the whole thing a little boring. Could be due to expecting a spy film rather a romantic WWII drama.
