Pretty much every line in Walk Hard is a lampoon of some sort, and quite wonderfully, it all lands! The script is equal parts immature, absurd, and witty, every cast member is just all in, and then there's the songs.
The music in this movie is fantastic - they are well written, and are incredibly funny in their parodies. I will quite happily stick the soundtrack on from time to time.
Biopics, especially music based ones, can be a risky game. They can be amazing cinema, but they always teeter on the edge of unintentional hilarity, and Walk Hard just fucking tears the walls down and savages what these type movies try to be and what they end up being. Its glorious.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat
This is another one of King's great short stories, up there with The Long Walk. A very insightful psychological thriller, that has, at some points in time, been banned from book shelves. It is one of the stories in the Bachman Books, one that is always well remembered, probably because of the effect reading it has on you.
King delves into the mind of a high school shooter, it's violent and graphic, it is not tasteless. As Bachman King did some of his best writing.

An Edge of Your Seat Thriller
Nothing creates more suspense than taking away all the sound on the room. You ever walk through the house completely silent in the dead of night clinging to a hairbrush after hearing a sound downstairs? That is how I felt sitting at the edge of my seat as I glued myself to the theater's screen. There most have been no more than five works spoken throughout this film and the effect was stunning. The silence pulled you into the story and kept you focused on the screen as you pieced everything together, the visual effects are carefully planned and there's such careful details placed into the overall world this movie has created that you can't help but be in awe by the end of the film. The ending fills you with hope and a sense of accomplishment that you can't help but share with the characters. It was truly complete ending to the film and an overall masterpiece.

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
2020 | Adventure, Fantasy
The first big superhero movie of the summer arrives - if you're in Australia, anyway. (Cheers, 2020.) The setting has been updated to the mid 1980s, which in no way resembles the present day, of course: Wonder Woman must enter the White House and do battle with a failed businessman, TV personality and con man who has stolen the power of the US presidency. Of course there's a bit more going on to dress this up and stop the cute-little-red-cap crowd from getting pouty and boycotting it, but that's the most striking element of the plot - interesting to see a blockbuster with a political edge to it, even if that edge is somewhat disguised.

Apart from that, this is a good, slick, lively blockbuster, very colourful and with a nicely positive outlook to it. Some of the characterisation perhaps undercuts the film's feminist agenda - Wonder Woman's chief character point is that she's sad because she's got no boyfriend, while assistant villain Cheetah's big issue is basically being jealous of women who can walk in heels - and Chris Pine is an absence of hiatus, as usual, but in every respect this is a decent blockbuster.

I managed to confuse myself a bit with this book because I have recently read Awakening (Rapture's Edge #1) and managed to completely miss the following Reader's Advisory - "Awakening is a paranormal romance novel, a vampire romance with a fantasy edge, of the Rapture’s Edge Series. The series is preceded by two related books: BRINK OF ETERNITY and THE DARKENING. RAPTURE’S EDGE is part of the Guardians of Ascension Saga!"

So starting this book, I immediately travelled back in time to before Rachel and Duncan got together, as Elise and Gideon try to figure out just what it is that's going on with them, dealing with death vampires and going through Elise's ascension.

This book is full of intensity and action, both between the sheets and out of it. Elise is a feisty character who knows what she wants and how to get it. The only difficulty she has is figuring out if someone can be by her side or if she will continue to walk alone. Elise and Gideon have already had a relationship which ended by mutual consent, but they both still feel the attraction. Secrets and personal fears though have a way of getting involved and in the way as they try to figure out what is going on between them.

The characters in this book are all wonderfully written and it was actually really good to read about them in a different context, even if it was from an earlier time than what I had already read. Definitely recommended.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Poseidon is mine ( Gods and Monsters book 2)
By Mila Young

I’m a champion. Bound to fight Titans. Sworn to act as Zeus’ shield and defend the gods.

And I’m in trouble.

Apollo’s bright love is consuming, and the dark god Hades fills my dreams with lust and desire. Even though I’m torn between them, the sea god, Poseidon, surfaces to calm the chaos, except I’m falling for him.

I’m living my new life on a sword’s edge, losing part of myself with each passing day. Trying to walk the fine line between my humanity and godhood is proving difficult.

Heracles attempts to help me control my new power, and Ares insists I leap into the fight. All while the darkness is consuming souls with greater frequency. And I worry not even the gods can stop Death.

I’m drowning in Poseidon’s affection…it’s either hold on tight…or be swept away. But either way, Poseidon is mine.

I’m such a sucker for books about the Greek gods I’m obsessed and this series is so good at feeding that obsession! I love Elise and the gods I love the relationships building between them! We just need X gone now!!

The Night She Disappeared

⭐️⭐️⭐️

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend.

One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.”

Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground?

This started off slow for me but by the end I was gripped. I had kinda guessed what had happened half way through but it was well written and kept me interested until the end. I’m halfway way between 3&4 stars and only because I had worked it out early it stays at a 3. Not sure I’d have killed Zachary but he certainly wasn’t a nice character and needed a smack. I can’t imagine having your children just disappearing like that.

Damn, this book!?! Mandi gets me every time... her incredible writing, fabulous characters and more angst than I can handle!? Absolutely LOVED this story, tore through it in one day. Willow has reached her limit, finally brave enough to walk away from her heart, her muse, her rhythm... Stone simply doesn't get it, knowing deep down that his heart is and will forever be with the girl he threw away in order to get high, chase woman and be the famous rock star he always dreamed of. Yet through his drug-induced haze he never realized what he was doing to his love, his family, his life... a hand full of pills and waking up in rehab will quickly set you straight, but is it too late? Did he crush Willow so deeply that IF he ever finds her again, can she ever forgive him? This book was meaningful on so many levels.... heart-wrenching, had me on the edge of my seat, bawling my eyes out!? Absolutely not to be missed- HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended!?
