Beautiful Drama
Director Robert Redford brings us this story of a New Mexico town where tensions begin to rise when one farmer uses an unauthorized form of water to irrigate his bean crop. The act is noticed by the local townspeople, the local law enforcement and the opposing force of a rich property magnate eager to build a sprawling golf course on the town's land.
The townspeople eventually band together after much debate, but they are not sure anything can be done.
I enjoyed this drama; however, felt like it dragged a bit at times. The ensemble cast was enjoyable especially Christopher Walken and John Heard. Rubén Blades as the local law was also fun to watch.
The vast New Mexico countryside was probably my favorite element to watch. No doubt this factor was also probably appealing to Redford who is a lifelong environmentalist.
I enjoyed it.

Beautiful and my favourite film
I was so young when I first watched this film and I can honestly say that I have never watched anything more beautiful and heartwarming.
This is a movie that shows love, friendship, loss and hardships. It’s so beautifully drawn you feel such a connection that it’s as if the characters leap off the screen and are sat there with you. Watch out for little Easter eggs that hint at their other creations and it will make the experience even more enjoyable. It’s hard to spot them all but it’s a fun game once you’ve watched it a few times.
If you haven’t watched this film yet I urge you to watch it, but be prepared to fall in love and never be able to forget this film.
Just remember once you’ve watched this, watch all the other studio Ghibli films as you can’t stop at this one.

A charming compendium to Mary Poppins
Having just watched the original Mary Poppins a few weeks ago I was anxious to also watch this film which I had remembered when it was released. I am so glad I did as it was a glorious supplement to understand the history f the film, the reluctance of the original author to sell the rights to Disney and how they eventually convinced her to do it.
The bonus subplot of the author as a young child and the tumultuous relationship she had with her own father so also interesting in the parallels drawn or she must have written about which end up in the final Poppins story and film.
Strong performances by Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson and even the normally annoying Colin Farrell added to the rich story. Watching this film actually makes you want to watch Poppins again because of all the timeless songs.
I just might do that!

Smh
ok, I wasn't going to watch this one because sequels like these, I find, tend to be worse than the originals. Someone wanted me to check it out so, against my better judgements, I did. What I found was a watered down(pun intended) version of the first film(which I really liked and enjoyed). The cinematography wasn't too bad with some decent effects but the acting was weak and the storyline was too. It was very predictable and had your typical Hollywood leave-it-open-for-a-sequel ending(something the original didn't do). This could've been a stand alone film except for the glaring similarities in characters and plot(only on a much lower budget). I don't think I'll be watching the third one. Honestly, you wouldn't be missing anything if you didn't see this one yourselves. Just go watch the first one again. Much more entertaining. NOT worth a watch.
