Andy K (10823 KP) rated The Passion of the Christ (2004) in Movies

Still holds up years later
While I would not consider myself to be a religious person, I did enjoy Mel Gibson's film quite a bit. I was able to follow along with the story despite not knowing the events through many recent churchgoing experiences.
I have no problem with subtitled films either. Just like an English-speaking movie, the story just has to be interesting or compelling and this film is both.
I understand those who find this film controversial or do not enjoy, but, as with all movies, this is just one man's interpretation of events like any movie. The subject matter is what some people object to if their beliefs differ from Gibson's.
If you disliked originally, give it another chance.

Sarah (7800 KP) rated LEGO Harry Potter Collection in Video Games

Lots of fun and very entertaining
You can't really beat the Lego games. They're so much fun and it's hilarious to watch your favourite films immortalised in brick form. The Lego Harry Potter collection is no different.
Visually it looks fantastic and there's lots to keep you busy during each level. To the point where there's almost too much to do. It's fun to play alone and with someone else, a game where you don't want to kill the other person who's playing with you - instead cooperation is the key! My only criticism is that it gets a bit frustrating that you can't do everything in a level until you've completed the entire game and gone back to play with all of your unlocked characters. A little time consuming!

Andy K (10823 KP) rated Revenge of the Nerds (1984) in Movies

I wish I was as cool as these nerds!
If this is really what happens when "nerds" go to college, I want to enroll!
Lewis and Gilbert think things will be different when they show up to attend Atoms College. Unfortunately, the football jocks and the cheerleaders have some immature fun at the expense of the nerds.
Never fear, however, the nerds devise a plan to get even and ultimately win a seat on the Greek counsel in an attempt to change opinions around the college.
Much of the film is raunchy, immature humor with a lot of 80s nudity thrown in; however, some of the characters are down right hilarious and many of the scenes are very funny. It is still one of my go to 80s comedy gems.

Andy K (10823 KP) rated the Nintendo Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in Video Games

One of the greatest games of all time!
I recently started replaying this again after a long break and it is seriously amazing.
The map is mammoth and full of shrines, all terrains and many cool, interesting monsters. I love the shrines. They are so much fun to figure out and battle.
The emotional story is backed up by many familiar and also quite a few new characters making the gameplay that much more fun.
I have to also admit to being an Amiiboholic (I think I have almost all of them) which makes it even more fun to collect lots of helpful power-ups and cool costumes. I never tire of exploring and finding new things to do and places to go.

Jcadden76 (64 KP) rated the PlayStation 4 version of Far Cry 5 in Video Games
Jun 10, 2018
Storyline (5 more)
Atmosphere
NPCs
Villains
Perk System
Guns for Hire System
Repetitive encounters (1 more)
Lack of diverse weapons
Compelling story beautiful, open-world
Much like Far Cry 4 (which I loved) this is an open-world, vaguely linear action adventure game. Lots of terrain to explore, lots of odd encounters with strange NPCs.
The difference, and the real hook for me, is the storyline. Trying to avoid spoilers, go watch the trailer and get sucked in. Based in the US you are a US Marshal fighting a religious cult. Trying to reclaim Hope County from this bizarre and extreme set of believers.
The multiplayer is good and well thought out and different but I will admit that I have spent very little time in the Multiplayer world of Far Cry 5.

Andy K (10823 KP) rated House of Sand and Fog (2003) in Movies

I lover Jennifer!
I have had a crush on Jennifer Connelly for 30 years. She still looks great and has chosen many great roles over her career.
She is fantastic in this film about an unmotivated woman who gets tossed from her family home and then starts a conflict with the new owners because she feels they have unlawfully taken her home from her.
She befriends a deputy who decides to assist her in harassing the new owners until their conflict comes to a head.
Ben Kingsley and Shohreh Aghdashloo are also very good as the new homeowners who just want to be left alone.
The tense final half of the film is well worth the slightly slow moving first act.
Highly recommended.

Katie Niles (20 KP) rated Netflix in Apps

Nifty Netflix.
My Netflix experience has been so good, we shut our cable off and use Netflix and Amazon as our source of entertainment. I love the fact that I can binge watch different types of genres when it comes to tv shows. The movie selection is very wide span as well and my only complaint is there is entirely too many b- rated horror flicks. Otherwise I have nothing but good to say about Netflix. The app is on my phone as well for any on the go entertainment I need while running on the treadmill or sitting in a doctors waiting room. Thumbs up to Netflix.

Andy K (10823 KP) rated Fargo (1996) in Movies
Jun 5, 2018
Who remembers The English Patient? No one!
This is probably the first time anyone noticed The Coen Brothers. They had directed a few good movies before Fargo, but this one really put them on the map.
When this movie first came out, I told multiple people they should go see it, but I had a hard time explaining what it was about. It has a simple premise of a kidnapping gone wrong, but the characters screenplay and their accents are really what make the movie most memorable.
Frances McDormand, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi and the rest of the cast are amazing.
I still can't believe this movie did not win. This film certainly has endured way better than The English Patient.
If you haven't seen, you must.

Joe Julians (221 KP) rated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) in Movies

A Mixed Bag
Full review here:
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom started well. Most things to do with the island, volcano and all, worked for me. There was even a moment that genuinely had an emotional impact on me and I wasn't expecting that at all. The wheels fell off for me though as soon as the setting changed. Whilst I appreciate the horror tone that it was going for, it all felt a bit B movie and so far removed from what made me fall in love with the franchise in the first place. The ending was intriguing and opens up some interesting possibilities for what's next, but on the whole, this was a real mixed bag.
