BobbiesDustyPages (1259 KP) rated Daughter of Smoke and Bone in Books

I loved this book and series so much and honestly, there are very few writers who know how to world build as well as Laini Taylor does and her writing just sucks you into this amazing universe she created.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone hooks you in from beginning to end with its amazing characters and a plot that is engaging and just so well constructed even though you know where it's going you still just can't help but want to go along for the ride.

Better than expected
Found this little gem on Netflix(original). The acting, cinematography and effects are decent. The story played out well. A little bit of a slow starter but kept the interest throughout. No big names that I knew, but the characters were well played. Takes place in the eighties in Scotland and it feels like you're watching a movie made in the eighties. If you're into creepy, supernatural horror flicks this one will please you. Not "The Conjuring" good but still worth a watch.

Excuse me while I empty my pants
I've played a lot of scary games from Silent Hill to F. E. A. R. and, well, wasn't scared. I haven't played Outlast but Outlast 2 shook me up. It is really messed up and the entire game you run for your life. It is so well done from the sounds to having to use night vision on your camera. Go get scared
Remy Tankel Carroll (36 KP) rated The Marriage Bureau: True Stories From 1940s London Matchmakers in Books

I loved this book. It's an original topic and a great story about 2 female entrepreneurs in a time when the business world was mostly dominated by men. It is well written and well researched. It's fascinating to see what people deemed important in a mate during a time of war. I think my favorite part was reading some of the actual requests that were written during the interview. It just goes to show that everyone has someone out there who's his or her perfect match.
James Koppert (2698 KP) rated Utopia for Realists: And How We Can Get There in Books

Utopia for Realist's
To Bregman a utopia is a place where everyone is doing ok and is happy. He uses science of economics and sociology to demonstrate how easy it is to reach as well. It's looking at new solutions to old problems. He's still a capitalist but he believes by helping the poor not be the poor, capitalism will do very well for itself. Very interesting, exceptionally east to read and brilliant book.

Cool soundtrack (2 more)
Good fight scenes
Good cast list
Quirky mash up comedy
Finally got round to seeing this. Quite a unique film in the style mixing video game imagery, rock music and fight action into a comedy. On the whole it works. The music is good and the fights are well choreographed. I wouldn't say it was laugh out loud funny but fairly amusing in some scenes. Quite a few well known faces in smaller roles here. Bit of a mixed bag but overall good fun.
Sarah (7800 KP) rated The Familiars in Books

I'm a little unsure what to say about this book. It's very well written and it's a great little gothic novel, with a great setting in Lancashire during the time of the Pendle witches. Fleetwood is an endearing if not slightly irrational protagonist and mostly likeable, although I do think some of the other characters were a little underdeveloped. This is just an all round very good and well written novel that I struggled to put down, even if the plot wasn't exactly unpredictable.
