When Four Horror Icons Collide
House of the Long Shadows- is a excellent movie. It has four horror legends and icons in it. Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and John Carradine. It mixes horror, suspense and comedy and it does a excellent job with it.
The plot: An American author finds a dilapidated Welsh manor perfect for writing until the residents host a bizarre family reunion.
Its a must see film.

gayga (2127 KP) rated Human Traffic (2000) in Movies

I’m probably the last person in the world to watch Human Traffic! I was somehow under the impression it was like Trainspotting, which I found as boring as fuck! However, I loved HT much better, not that I’m biased - being Welsh (I’m Swansea rather than Cardiff!)
I wasn’t a party person myself but watching Jip, Nina, Lulu, Koop and Moff I really felt like I wanted to be. I think it captured the feeling of the 90’s. Will be excited to see the sequel!

I was given this book by a friend who knows of my love of "fantasy" books and folklore / mythology. This was an absolutely magnificent read that draws you in from the first page and keeps you guessing until the end. Exceedingly well written with characters you can associate with. I have to admit that my favourite part of the book is actually the location of Wales and therefore the folklore given is Welsh. It make such a refreshing change to read about Wales' history and not just Ireland.
Would highly recommend it to simply everyone!!!

Billie Wichkan (118 KP) rated Remember Me in Books
May 22, 2019
Fifteen years ago Ellen Smith vanished from the woods near her small Welsh village. Never to be seen again.
Eight people were in the woods that night: eight splintered lives, eight people hiding a terrible secret. But who can remember the truth?
Now, Ellens best friend, Detective Ava Cole is all grown up back in the village where it all began, and everyone is asking the same question.
What really happened to Ellen?
The book is told from the point of view of Ava a New York detective who returns to her childhood welsh village upon learning about the terminal illness of her ex-husband. There is a lot going on in this book. It all centers around a group of friends who have known each other since childhood. They have a dark secret that they have concealed since their teen age years.
Gripping and creepy this is a claustrophobic thriller that never leaves Aberdyth.
The tension built throughout and I couldn't put it down until I finished it!
The plot has many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.
I highly recommend this book.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for kindly providing me the eARC of this book.

Oooooh laaaaaa
I admit I was late discovering this LP. My early 20's but OMG! Once I did it blew my freaking ears off.
Not a duff tune among them. Forget the remakes and the dance remixes! Wrap your lugs around the original.
I'm not a big lover of Richard Burton, even though he comes from the same Welsh town as me but I have to say it wouldn't be the same without him.
If you've never heard it before, it's not just Eve of the War and Forever Autumn!

Merissa (11800 KP) rated Garthowen (A Story Of A Welsh Homestead) in Books

Garthowen (A Story Of A Welsh Homestead) by Allen Raine
This is a gentle story, written and based in the 1800's. It is about one family and their homestead and the people that they meet along the way. It is an interesting view back into what "Old" Wales might have been like, the scenery and the viewpoints. There is a love story within this book but it doesn't dominate.
If you like a gentle story and historical fiction, if you like Wales, then this story is for you.

RDJ's accent
So much potential!
I have to say I was really looking forward to this film, a great cast and some good look trailers, and social media snippets. However I have to say I was very underwhelmed with the film as a whole, the voice acting was top notch, however the CGI animals at time looked like they did in the late 2000's. My biggest gripe about the whole film was the very bad supposedly Welsh accent from Robert Downey Jr, as he was the main character and in most scenes this really spoilt my enjoyment of what potentially could have been a great film.

Not as good as Daft Wee Stories
Some more daft wee stories from Limmy. I picked this up as a holiday read when my current fantasy book became too grim for poolside reading. These short stories are all of a similar feel to the first set but to my mind of lesser quality. The stories are generally all someone getting themselves into a ludicrous situation after a series of seemingly logical decisions. None of these quite match up with those in the first book, and some just end without his trademark twisted punchline. The final story, more of a novella, is more like a rejected Irvine Welsh story than his usual, and is really quite an unpleasant read.
