"This is when I fell in love with the genius Mr. Clarke & Alison's amazing voice. I could see why they thought she was a black gospel singer in the Detroit/Chicago House clubs. 'I Before E Except After C' kinda fucks your head up, and it's very indicative of what it's like to work with Vince. 'Winter Kills' is bleak and heart bracingly sublime all at the same time."

"Every time I hear the Kinks’ “Too Much on My Mind,” I see Bruno Ganz as Jonathan in his little framing shop. Ganz is incredible in this, as is Dennis Hopper. Wonderful cameos from Nicholas Ray and Sam Fuller too. Wenders and cinematographer Robby Müller capture perfectly the light and color of a northern European city in winter . . . You can almost feel the damp cold in your bones."

Book Rating

A beautifully crafted ghost story full of atmosphere and vivid poignancy. The themes it portrays about war and grief are unsentimentalised yet moving. The backdrop of cold, winter and snow are on one hand symbolic of emotion but on the other are personnified to become almost a second protagonist. I'm a huge fan of classic ghost stories and loved Mosse's multi-layered tale with its historic and emotional twists.

In this collection, Rachel Joyce connects seven short stories that span from just before Christmas Eve through New Year's Eve. What is most interesting is that Joyce not only arranges these tales chronologically, she also links them with other elements. This book is a massive collection of the run of 'The Captain' series. It's one of my favorite runs. Steve Rogers, fka Captain America, can no longer use his shield because it's property of the gov. the mantle is taken up by John Walker.
I believe they may use some of this run in the new The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which would be great, because it's a solid story.
