Destine Academy ( Destine Academy book 1)
By Sara Snow
⭐️⭐️⭐️
On her 16th birthday, Caroline Destine's safe, happy existence is turned…UPSIDE DOWN into uncertainty, mystery, and magic...
Caroline returns home from school on her 16th birthday to find her mother and brother missing, with NO sign of a struggle and NO clues to their whereabouts.
Caroline's estranged aunt and next of kin, the mysterious Marguerite Destine, brings Caroline to stay with her in France at the prestigious school where Marguerite is Headmistress.
However, the students at Destine Academy aren't your typical gifted and talented academics...
Caroline finds herself surrounded by a world filled with four factions of magically talented individuals, each with their own special skills. There's the friendly witch Nadine Landry of the Magiques and the handsome and flirtatious Corbin of the Surnaturals with his preternatural strength and skills.
Even the sullen and unapproachable Magique Aldrick Vieux can't help but intrigue Caroline, who finds many more surprises in store for her in this fascinating world.
...and terrifying truths that throw everything she thought she ever knew into question.
But is she ready for this new knowledge, or for the potential dangers of this unfamiliar new reality?
A little bit of an odd start! Reads more like a novella than a book. This is the first book in a 9 book series and I’m thinking they are all very short! For a quick read it was ok very teeny but could hold some promise I was red to go a little lower on scoring but I’m hoped for upcoming books from this author.

Ryneq and Nykin have made it back home to Torsere but their troubles are far from over. The witch they are dealing with now seems even worse than the one they just killed. No matter what they plan, she is three steps ahead. Of course, the reason why comes out and wasn't really a surprise but, still, who it was just added an extra layer of heartache to the story.
I will admit, this one had me in tears. It's darker than the others, with almost no hope of a happy ending, which, when it does happen, is full of non-stop action that will take your breath away. This book is not without loss, and it was so well-written! How the characters reacted was just superb! Yes, I know that sounds strange but read it for yourself and you'll see.
With excellent world-building, characters to love and hate, plus some steamy scenes, this trilogy has been outstanding. I have loved every moment and am sad to see it come to an end. This is one of those books you wish you could un-read, just so you have the opportunity to read it again with fresh eyes! Absolutely recommended by me!

Debbiereadsbook (1608 KP) rated Kiss of Darkness (Curse of the Guardians #1) by Taylor Aston White in Books

Oh I liked this, a LOT! It sort of grabs you, and doesn't let go, runs you through a wringer and spits you out again! And then you gotta wait Lord know how long til the fun starts again!
Kyra is a witch, and is bound to serve in exchange for her life. But when that threatens the lives of ordinary people, she know she has to stop it, somehow. Xander is forced to protect her while things settle but Xander hates black witches, with good reason. Given as they are both keeping secrets, things are bound to boil over. And when they do, sparks fly.
Like I said, I liked this. It's dark and deadly, it's keeping things from you, it's smexy in places, and downright blood thirsty in others. There is much going on and you gotta concentrate while running through that wringer, let me tell ya! It's been a long time since I had a book that did that!
Both Kyra and Xander have a say, and I loved that. I loved all of Xander's Guardian team, and there was a pairing I saw here, with Kyra's friend, that might just be as explosive as Kyra and Xander are.
I can't wait, cos I am now fully invested is this group of Guardians, and them finding their mates!
I wrote 4 stars at the top of the page, but nah, upgrading to the full
5 stars!

Druids Storm ( Alice Skye 2)
By Taylor Aston White
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A betrayed witch. A fractured past. A dark secret.
Just two months after her abduction, Alice Skye is ready to get back to her job as a Paladin Agent, tracking and detaining Breed by any means necessary. Even though bones have healed and bites have scarred, she’s no closer to the truth, and the one man who knows is nowhere to be seen.
Riley Storm has his own problems being heir to the Storm empire and a Guardian of the Order. So he keeps his distance from the unpredictable Alice Skye. Until he’s forced back into her life, whether she wants him to be or not.
As a vampire genocide shocks the city, Alice partners as the new liaison with the local authorities, the job an exciting opportunity that would help bridge the relationship between Breed and Norms for good. But Alice can’t help but feel there’s more to the dark murders, that maybe there's something bigger behind the lies and deceit.
Can Alice trust her instincts and stop the poison before more lives are taken?
Or will she be distracted as her life unravels once again?
I loved this second book. I like that she’s solving crimes and dealing with her magic and finding out who she is without a whole load of relationship drama, reminds me of the early Anita Blake novels. I think the characters are brilliant bad and good it was so much better than book 1 and I love it’s set in London.

Sebastian is a chaos witch, Justin is a vampire, and Pavel is a gargoyle. Each of them is facing a crisis - whether that is a sister who wants to take over their mother's coven, self-confidence, or the fact that they may be turning to stone permanently very soon. No matter, they're all having a moment!
This was a fast-paced story with a variety of subjects/tropes, but it just felt to me as though none of them were actually discussed properly, or dealt with either. The only one that was focused on was the infernal push and pull of whether or not they would be mates. I was at 85% and it still wasn't resolved, yet other parts that I would have loved more information on were just swept aside. For me, there was too much going on with not enough explanation or depth.
On the whole, this was a good read, but nothing that really rang my bell. I'm sure it will be loved by many, but it has just left me wondering if my review would have been different if I'd have read the others.
