A classic but written for a younger audience than the later books
I love Harry Potter. I got this book at the age of 7 and it definitely changed my life. This is a wonderful childrens story and accessible to a younger audience. This book is set before the series gets too dark so I would recommend it for all ages. However the characters are a bit one dimensional at times compared to the later books.

I can't even remember how I got turned onto this story, I think it might have been my sister. She kept telling me how awesome it was, and I just had to see for myself. From the first moment, I was hooked. I got sucked into the wizarding world of Harry Potter so quick it was like a tornado hit. From the first page, I couldn't put it down, I had to know what happened. I think me I finished this one in two days, that's how hooked I was. As much as I've enjoyed Twilight and Catching Fire, neither of those series made me love to read as much as Harry Potter. Not to mention wishing I had magical powers.

The Gateway Book to a Lifelong Addiction
I started reading the Harry Potter series while lifeguarding during a particularly rainy summer season. (I promise there were no people in the pool while I indulged) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a book that introduces you to Hogwarts and the magics of the wizarding world. It's not the best of the series, but that's okay. It gets better as you get more invested in the series. That being said, it is awesome to go back and re-read the first book to see all of the references that are made that relate to later events and people.
