Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated The Book Thief in Books

This novel was recommended to me by an old high school friend. This is definitely not my typical book. I like the fast paced suspense/romance and I tend to stick with those novels. I'm glad that I picked up this novel.
This novel was very interesting. It's a collection of short stories narrated by death. It follow the life of a young German girl during the time of world war 2. It's told in a different way by having "Death" as the narrator.
This was a pretty quick read. It makes you think too. It's one of those novels that will make you think about the depravity of human beings and give you some hope along side of it.
All in all, it was a good novel that deals with World War II.

This was amazing! I love the art work and the story line was beautifully done.
Alana and Marko are soldiers from 2 different worlds,on opposite sides of a war. When an unexpected love brews, these two risk everything to stay together and bring their daughter into the chaotic world.
Written in the point of view of the daughter, this takes you on Alana and Markos Journey.
Cant wait to continue on with the next one.

David McK (3185 KP) rated Memphis Belle (1990) in Movies
Nov 8, 2020
Drama based in the last flight of the B-52 bomber Memphis Belle, whose crew have survived 24 missions deep into enemy territory during World War 2 and are now about to embark in their final mission and become the first crew to survive a full tour of duty.
This ticks all the boxes expected from such a film; much better in the air (and in the cramped confines of the bomber) than on the ground.

Worth a read
I think this did a great job in selling the time frame and how different actions would impact the small community in Mississippi during the 40's just after world war 2. The character development thru the story even added to the story not just the characters.
Remy Tankel Carroll (36 KP) rated The Marriage Bureau: True Stories From 1940s London Matchmakers in Books

I loved this book. It's an original topic and a great story about 2 female entrepreneurs in a time when the business world was mostly dominated by men. It is well written and well researched. It's fascinating to see what people deemed important in a mate during a time of war. I think my favorite part was reading some of the actual requests that were written during the interview. It just goes to show that everyone has someone out there who's his or her perfect match.

Fascinating
Well what a great film about a fascinating story of the development of the atomic bomb. It looks and sounds great as you expect from Christopher Nolan. I'm sure there will be Oscar's a plenty especially for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.
Obviously it is almost 3 hours long but doesn't really drag, as well as the bomb building it also covers political elements after the World War 2. It's very intriguing and definitely worth catching on the big screen.

A look at the inhumanity of war
This is a harrowing tale based on the story of Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini (excellently played by Jack O'Connel) and his time in a pow camp in Japan during World War 2.
This film has a lot of hard scenes of soldiers captive being abused and having no rights at all, the camp director Watanabe especially seems to have an issue with young Louis.
A powerful film of a man reaching the heights of human accomplishment and ultimately being pushed further down than most will ever know.
A true take on the power of the human spirit and proof that no matter how bad it gets there's always a way to redemption.

Lindsay (1693 KP) rated Anchor in the Storm (Waves of Freedom, #2) in Books
Aug 30, 2018 (Updated Apr 9, 2019)
Anchor in the Storm is sweet and lovely read. I felt like I was in the story and I felt bad for Lillian and Arch. What will they endure together?
Sarah Sundin put you through the emotions with all her stories, but this one had me with my emotions after a chapter. Lillian finds out her brother is missing after an attack on his Navy ship "Atwood".
Are you a fan of Historical Fiction or do you enjoy reading about World War Two? This book has that feel to it. I enjoy learning about how we got into World War 2.
Lillian wants to be a druggist and a female one at that. In an era that is still new to the world with female having jobs. We are at the beginning of World War Two. The story starts out December 7, 1942, or around that time.
Arch is on leave time from the Navy. He has to deal with his troubles. Will they find love together and find out they need to open up and trust god first.
Arch seems to annoy Lillian and Lillian needs to prove herself. When they get to Boston something is up with her new job. They're a lot of perceptions for sedatives. Could there be a drug ring? Arch is dealing with it though the Navy's end for he sees it going on with his men. Is there a romance in the air?
