Cold-War set thriller, by an author that (for some reason) I associate more with World War 2 settings, this concerns the journey of the Atomic submarine Dolphin to the Arctic, in order to rescue the survivors of the adrift Ice Staion of the title.
I also feel that this could be split into 3 very distinct sections - the journey to the Arctic, the search and rescue of the survivors, and the journey back, with it transpiring in the middle section that the Ice Station had been sabatoged, rather than just plain unlucky, and with it furhter being revealed in the final section that the saboteour is still alive and on the sub ...
While it may be slightly dated now (in that the USSR is no longer in existence) and in some of the state-of-the-(then)-art technology, this is still an enjoyable read once you put yourself into the right mindset!

Wicked Kingdom ( Crown of Blood and Frost book 3)
By C.Y. Jones
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I never wanted the crown, the Throne, Elyeria... I never wanted any part of it. That’s my father’s world, not mine. Or so I thought. The false Queen needs to be stopped. She’s has gone too far this time. When you mess with any of my mates, you mess with me. Turning against one of my mates, I’ll do anything to protect him.Secrets are uncovered and bad guys become allies. There’s no such thing as rules in the war of the heart.I’m Winter DelaCort, Princess, Queen. No matter what you call me, I’m the true ruler of this Wicked Kingdom.
I didn’t end this one as much as I’ve enjoyed the others it lacked something. I thought a few bits were just eye rolling annoying. I found scenes with Kaiden a little uncomfortable too. Some of the language and words used I thought were just thrown in for a reaction. It was a bit meh.

Refreshingly different
This was my first Annie Murray and it made me love her storytelling. I found it was so different from what is usually written about women around the time of the war.
I didn't find out until after I had finished it that it was part of a series. I just had to know if there was a sequel as the ending was so abrupt, so many questions still unanswered, I was so relieved to see it was part of a series. I was surprised that it was the second as it was easy to fall into, you don't need to read the previous book to understand this one.
The main character isn't your usual woman in the early 1900's which makes you want to keep reading, to see how she is received in this world that is so strict, a world which anyone who was different were ostracized and frowned upon.
The way Annie Murray writes this story really does make you root for the characters, for me I felt I was there with them, not an easy thing to portray but Annie Murray does it well.
I am still on the look out for book 1 and 3 and hope I find them soon! I'd like to think others will read this (as I definitely think they should) and will fall in love with Annie Murray's books.

Tolkein created a complete detailed universe complete with its own mythology and lore (2 more)
Varied and rounded characters
Epic journey of good verses evil and the grey areas in between
Masterpiece
There is little I can say that has not already been said about The Lord of the Rings. It is an epic story of friendship, love, betrayal, war and essentially a coming of age journey. Middle earth and all its inhabitants come alive in your hands...you are transported to a world in chaos, a world of change where nothing is certain. Battle with dwarfs and elves, fight along side men who are impossibly brave and flawed and cry as the tiniest of people carry the biggest of burdens.
This book and the subsequent movies based on the world have been well quoted and are almost inbedded in British culture.
I envy those who haven't read them yet..you have a fantastic journey ahead. It will not be easy (this is not light reading) but it will be more than worth it. Enjoy, and give the elves my love.

Surprisingly inspiring for young ladies (2 more)
Beautifully satirical look at the impact of war on small communities
Terry Pratchett's amazing sense of humour
Re-readable again and again!
I love this book to Death. It's one of my go to reads because it's so easy to relate to the characters, to have a good laugh and to still have a deep think about the world all at once. It's easier to follow than a lot of Discworld novels and is a stand alone story so give it a go!
