As a fan of this author and of the classic Pride and Prejudice, I began reading this one with pretty high expectations. However, I was disappointed.

While the writing was as good as expected, I found myself simply not enjoying the story.

"I don’t know if there’s a stronger influence on my writing, both fiction and nonfiction, than Lorrie Moore. For a certain demographic of female writer, that’s a common sentiment. This sounds ludicrous, but just thinking of the table of contents makes me happy."

The writing was great. I found the characters odd enough to fit where the author was going but relatable enough. I did find out the twist early on but it didn't take away from the book at all. Enjoyable, funny read highly recommend.

Funny and relatable for the modern day mum (0 more)
Language is very simplified (0 more)
Really funny storyline and very relatable for most mums in modern society. The language and writing technique is very simplified but for newbies to reading this could be absolutely perfect.

The new Castle
brilliant new police procedural with a light hearted edge, but yet sometimes surprising real feeling. The show does a good job of making you care about the rookies and what happens to them.

I couldn't put this book down.
I wish this book had been around 10 years ago. It is so rare to find a book with such a strong teen female lead that doesn't end up completely centred around teen love/lust. I loved Briar rabbit and the writing was compelling enough to bring me to tears at the more intense parts of the story. It's a great read that I couldn't put down.

Jaw dropping at times but some inconsistencies
There were moments where I actually applauded the writing after finding out another piece of information and twist to this non-stop thriller. The snappy writing allows you to stay engaged with the story and the endless plot turns make it all the more intriguing.

I had a few qualms however. Some of the action sequences were bordering on Hollywood and were totally unbelievable, making Alex Cross seem invincible. And the serial killer narrative that went parallel to the story seemed almost pointless although it was at times even more engaging.
