Lirahlu (37 KP) rated A Study in Scarlet Women (Lady Sherlock, #1) in Books

An absolutely brilliant female retelling of Sherlock Holmes's classic first mystery. The writing is intelligent and the characters are on point. I absolutely adored the humor, mystery, and skillful unraveling of the threads of Miss Charlotte Holmes. It was far better than I expected.

Good not great!
I love Val MacDermid however this isn't by any means her best book. Unfortunately the main character comes across annoying and self absorbed. However the plot and whole idea of the book is a good read!

So I was extremely excited to read this novella but I felt that it was lacking. The writing was a little... I guess different from her first few novel.
All in all, I wish that this was an actual novel and not a novella.

Amazing
This is the show that got me into podcasts. Listen in to a community radio show from a small desert town. It's weird in the best way. Dynamic writing and amazing voice acting. If I could marry Cecil's voice, I'd be eternally happy

What lurks in the empty expanses of US highways?
Alice isn't dead follows Kesha as she becomes a trucker to search for her wife, who was presumed dead. The writing is amazing. Each episode is a wild ride through the uniquely American countryside and highways.

I pretty much love Nicole Pyland's writing. This book was a little different but still has the same deep, authentic feelings that make her novels so good. The characters are flawed but complex. The emotions this book brings out make it a must read.

Rolling Stone's greatest album of all time
Not as fast-paced as Revolver, as the drug consumption clearly increased in the song-writing process, it is much more plodding album and much poppier. A wonderful listen but for me not as good as Revolver.
