"This novel is cited by many of my author friends as the best in the English language. I, too, am awed by its beauty and intelligence, so much so that I sometimes feel I should stop writing. (I won’t.) The narrator of this story has been bestowed with telepathic powers by virtue of the time of his birth. This proves useful in recounting his life, which is coincidentally wrapped around historical events in India. Rushdie injects much political criticism of the powers that came to be, and this trait in his writing recalls for me George Orwell’s treatise on why we write: politics has much to do with it."

"A teacher gave me Flannery O’Connor’s short story collection in the ninth grade. I grew up in a small town where girls were taught to be polite and not laugh too loud or talk too much or show interest in anything that might scare away the boys. It was a revelation to read O’Connor’s work. Here was a woman from a small Georgia town (like me!) who in direct contravention to her sex and social class was writing the kinds of stories that I was not only interested in reading, but wanted to start writing myself. Her bravery and clarity of vision laid an early foundation for my own work."

It's definitely something new... not like anything else (2 more)
I actually quite enjoy the storyline, even though it is like a dirty version of twilight.
The raunch is quite entertaining 😂
The books are only known for their raunchy side which is a shame. (1 more)
The writing isn't too cracking.
I'm just romantic
Now I know the storyline isn't the best, neither is the writing but I still enjoy these books.
Also, since the books came out, people who are THAT way inclined, don't have to feel it's wrong, unusual or taboo. Between two consenting adults, there isn't anything wrong with it. (Although it is too much for my taste!)

This fantastic book follows the journey of a girl and her desire to discover the secrets of a ancient robot. Well written, the driving plot makes it impossible to put down while the format has you craving for even more answers.

The writing flows, the pace never lags, and I suspect this good book will be followed by even better books from this author who clearly has in them a great book.

Acting is so bad
Writing is terrible
Perspective is so off as to be unreal. No reason to try to make that terrible lady sympathetic.
So, so, so bad.
Just don't.

Great character development amid daily drama
Zadie Smith does a great job of encapsulating north London life by explaining the lives of four residents. While the drama itself is nondescript and a bit mundane, the writing is superb, and she does a great job of bringing the characters together.

There were a few slow moments in the novel, but this didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment. Readers like me who enjoy character-driven stories will enjoy this book. The writing was also really good.
