Stephen Miller (0 KP) rated Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in Books
Sep 29, 2017
Future literary classic
In 100 years time the Harry Potter books will be taught in schools and studied in universities the way current students study Dickens and Austen. Whilst not being the greatest piece of writing ever it is a perfect starting point for young readers to begin their journey through the myriad world's of books.

Worth the struggle
A classic of course. From an academic perspective, it is interesting to read this and look at the flaws caused by the limited knowledge at the time of writing. Without knowledge of DNA or genetics in general, there is a lot of guesswork here. But still this is a great book, and a great starting point for someone wanting to learn more about the world of evolution.

Male and female romantic interests
Genuinely sweet, fluffy romance.
Cats.
Love This Game
This was such a short, sweet game. Most of the game strategy is making sure that you get close to your target character, and then winning a climatic battle to finish the game. The writing was clever, the art was pretty and characters were interesting.

Impressed by DI Helen Grace
While it's difficult to follow the back story haven't read the previous five books, the story in itself set at a women's prison was fascinating and Arlidge has done a marvellous job of writing a female character. There are two simultaneous stories about serial killing throughout and while one of them makes sense, the other definitely doesn't and requires following the series. I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Emotionally Charged
Damn, this was simply a lovely story full of love, sadness, and redemption. While reading Zoey’s story I found myself crying, laughing and even wondering if I myself would be filled with the same kind of jealousy that Zoey experienced throughout the storyline. The author’s writing style pulls you in right from the start with beautiful characters and thought-provoking lines. I highly recommend this emotionally charged read.
Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Star Trek: The New Adventures: Volume 1 in Books
Jan 12, 2018
IDW has a great art team working on this title. BUT retelling classic Trek stories with slight twists to represent the new time line is lazy writing and quite frankly, boring. The best ones in the book stray far from the source material or are new stories to begin with. The same problem I have with the movies actually. Tell me new stories with this crew. Leave the prime universe alone.

Interesting author
Michael Lewis is one of those authors who could sell his shopping lists because they'd be interesting and full of little snippets that make you think, "that's genius, I should do that".
Liars poker, on the other hand, is just a story about how wall street businessmen are jerks. In anyone else's hands, soporific, in his, actually holds up. Somehow an engaging and interesting book.

I may not have fallen in love with the characters of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but I was mesmerized by the story. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer capable of weaving a multifaceted tale. I loved her writing style

BookCritics (259 KP) rated The Hundredth Queen in Books

As soon as I started reading, I wanted to stay. In fact, I knew this book would get five stars from me on chapter six. Not much had happened yet, but I was already in love with Emily R. King’s writing style. It’s effortless, but vivid
