ArecRain (8 KP) rated Cipher (The Shadow Ravens, #1) in Books
Jan 18, 2018
I wanted this book to be so much better than it was because I liked the premise so much. I should have known better, however, since this has a very YA feel to it. It fit the syllabus that every YA uses to a T and I found myself disappointed.
Overall, I still enjoyed the book. I liked CIpher as a person and it was interesting reading from both Cipher's and Knightly's POV. I also liked the world the author created as well as the the fact that there was a female friendship.
However, I felt the book would have been much better had the author focused on the action rather than the romance.

Cori June (3033 KP) rated Trickster's Girl (The Raven Duet #1) in Books
Aug 18, 2020 (Updated Aug 18, 2020)
A good story about a teen who recently lost her dad and copes with her grief by joining Raven the trickster of the NW US and Canada. They go on an journey to heal the lay lines of the world in the far near future.
I'd recommend it for kids that are wanting something YA but aren't ready for the mature sex and violence that is typical for most YA whose protagonist is 15 or older. Not that there isn't some hard discussions or danger. Mostly the biggest thing about it is the MC likes to think and sometimes talk in exclamations! It gets a bit tiring accurate or not.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Bomb: The Race to Build—and Steal—the World's Most Dangerous Weapon in Books
Jan 12, 2018
[BOMB] by [Steve Sheinkin] is the story of the development of the atomic bomb during World War II. It is broken into readable chunks and although it is very information heavy it is still interesting. As a YA nonfiction novel it is ok. The topic itself lends itself to being a little dry.
Brianna Robinson (0 KP) rated Before I Fall in Books

Addicting, beautiful, real YA novel!
I devoured this one summer and fell in love with Lauren Oliver's prose. She tapped into the teenage experience in a way that spoke to me as a teen. I loved the concept, the characters, and knew that I would be a Lauren Oliver fan for life.

I know some people said they saw the end coming but I actually didn't. I enjoyed figuring out the end as the characters themselves did. The characters and their development and the story was done very well. It's a good YA thriller but nothing uniquely good or bad about it
Jo (37 KP) rated Elephant Shoe in Books

I wrote this.
Elephant Shoe is a story of loss and hope; acceptance and forgiveness; family, friendship and first love.
It's a British LGBT YA with mild sexual content, moderate bad language, and some difficult themes.
