I think what I loved most about this book is that I was so torn over my opinion of each character. I wasn't a huge fan of Mare (the protagonist) which made me question her judgement. I've also read enough YA to pick up on some common tropes but this book literally had me guessing up until the last chapter. I can't remember the last time I read a book I was this conflicted on and I love that Aveyard's writing had this effect on me. Now excuse me while I go buy the next one ?

"One of my favorite YA novels. The dystopian society was so well planned out, removing the passions of our world such as poetry and music to lend the support to an existence without pure love. The main character, Lena Halloway, had such a great voice, perfect for a teen narrative, and her interactions with all the Cureds (those who have been saved from the disease, ""amor deliria nervosa"") just grew more and more fascinating with each page. "Love; the deadliest of all deadly things. It kills you both when you have it and when you don't.""

The concept of the fates and a magical carnival (0 more)
Heavy romance forced in and detail sacrificedtj (0 more)
Too much pressure on the romance
The first books were wonderful, like a YA night circus. However as the story progressed everything revolved around romamce, some of these 'relationships' were bordering abusive and controlling, but because everyone loves a rouge, we were supposed to forgive it. A great concept, fates trapped in cards, a carnival game that could grant your every desire, kingdoms in peril, but the story should have focused more on the sisters relationship, rather than the romance side.
