The hugely talented Mr Jackman
Amazing
A constant stream of powerful, catchy songs all accompanied by fantastic choreography and eye popping visuals. Hugh Jackman is brilliant as showman P T Barnum, as is Zac Efron and everyone else. I really couldn't find fault with this as far as entertainment value goes. My daughter has been playing the soundtrack and singing the songs ever since we saw the movie and that's fine by me (for now!). It's wonderful when a movie comes along with the power to entertain and affect you long after leaving the cinema.

I've been looking forward to this one since it was announced. While I know the story is being told from Liz's perspective, I have to admit I found it strange that we didn't get to see any of the murders being committed by one of the most famous serial killers of all time. It's an interesting take on a story most people already know.

Zac Efron was excellent, as was the rest of the cast (Jim Parsons can do no wrong), but the movie does drag just a bit, and I feel like some of Efron's talent is wasted here. They definitely could have done more with him. That said, he was the perfect mix of creepy and charming, and when they show the actual Bundy footage during the end credits, you realize how close Efron's performance comes to the actual man.

Overall I thought it was good, but could maybe have been better.

Oh, and also? I'll never be mad at Zac Efron's....backside. ?

Funny Feel-Good
This movie is definitely one of my comfort films. One of the movies I come back to throughout my life because it makes me laugh. It's mindless, Zac Efron is not horrible to look at, and I think the plot and the subplots are funny. It's obviously not the most introspective or philosophical film and that's okay! I think that is a side of film that can be super fun when it's done well. I think this is one of those films.

I don't think I could count how many times I've seen this film and it truly never gets old. I really love it.

Zac Efron seems to be perfectly cast as Ted Bundy and there is an uncanny resemblance to him, he portrays the serial killer very well and keeps the unnerving feel of Bundy throughout the film.

The rest of the cast also works well in this production based on the based Elizabeth Kendall’s book “The Phantom Prince: My Life with Ted Bundy“, the film also stars Kaya Scodelario (THE MAZE RUNNER trilogy) as Carole Anne Boone, Haley Joel Osment (THE SIXTH SENSE) as Liz’s Co-Worker Jerry, Angela Sarafyan (WESTWORLD) as Joanna, Jim Parsons (TV’s THE BIG BANG THEORY) as Florida Prosecutor Larry Simpson and John Malkovich (DEEPWATER HORIZON) as Judge Edward D. Cowart.

One of the best soundtracks
I cannot get enough of this soundtrack. Since seeing the film in December, I've had this album on virtually constantly in my car and I can tell you, it really brightens up the journey to work!

It's been a long time since I've listened to a soundtrack that has had so many good songs. With the exception of Tightrope which I'm not particularly keen on, the rest of the songs are fantastic. They're all ridiculously catchy and well written, with great music. Keala Settle has a fantastic voice and Hugh Jackman too, and it's even good to hear Zac Efron singing again. I'd name my favourite songs, but I'd end up naming pretty much the entire album...

Hugh Jackman... duh
Not really historical, which is probably a good thing. (0 more)
Good music and a good story though it is not really Barnum...
Really enjoyed The Greatest Showman. Hugh Jackman is always entertaining and throws himself fully into every role. He has a great voice and he and Zac Efron were terrific on the screen together.

While the music was very good, I don't know that it jumps to the tops of my Spotify playlist but I will be listening through it another few times and I will probably like it more.

It is not the historic Barnum. That is a good thing. He was a horrible individual. That would be a different musical.

songs quite forgetful (0 more)
I was undecided whether to watch this film. musicals generally don't appeal to me (there are exceptions). however my wife wanted to watch it so I bought her the blu-ray and we sat down on a Saturday night and watched it. I was really very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of Hugh Jackman anyway I don't remember a bad film he's been in and I think he's a fantastic all round entertainer. I felt some of the songs seemed a bit samey and forgettable but the story and acting were good. Zac Efron I think redeemed himself from the drivel he's been in recently. It was a shame about some dodgy cgi in places but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well done and gripping
I can't lie, whilst I know of Ted Bundy I dont know the details about everything he did, so I found this film to be really gripping and informative. Ted Bundy is truly a fascinating individual, its almost unbelievable that after so many years on death row he wa still proclaiming his innocence. Zac Efron isn't someone you'd usually associate with being a good actor but he plays Ted very well. He has the right amount of charm and looks but beneath that you can still see the simmering sinister murderous side. Just goes to show Efron can act in something serious after all.

The rest of the supporting cast too are very good, and the entire film moves along a fairly decent pace. This is one film that definitely can't be accused of dragging, but for me its maybe a little too short. I feel like they could have elaborated or gone into more details, especially those that didnt occur during the timeline of the film. However I suppose that wouldn't make sense as this is the story of Liz and her time with Bundy. But still, for me I would've liked a little bit more although its still a very intriguing and enthralling film with some very good acting.

Great review! Having just watched this, I totally agree with all of the points you made. When hearing that Zac Efron was going to play a serial killer, I was a bit skeptical, but I think he was a good choice, due to his charm. I also agree that this was the 'Hollywood' version of the true story and didn't go into Ted Bundy's life as much as I would have liked. It's a really good film though.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile (2019) is extremely well acted but shockingly superficial
...Zac Efron as Bundy is superb, radiating the charm, charisma and magnetism which goes some way to explaining Bundy’s horrific, prolific litany of murders. His eyes become the window to Bundy’s black-hearted soul as they flash from smouldering sensuality to steely malevolence and back when the mask occasionally slips. He brings an exquisite, subtle physicality to the role giving Bundy mannerisms and actions which creep around the peripheral edge of your perception – in the way he holds a kitchen knife or the way his hand rests on someone’s neck in a position and for a moment longer than seems comfortable or normal – to remind us of the dark truth of the man and what he’s capable of while he beams that megawatt smile...

Better than expected (still not great)
I had expected this to be naff and didn't think the Rock could stop it from being so. It was naff, but it knew it was naff and played along with it. However, there did become a point where it suddenly realised it had to get the job done and took itself too seriously.
There are a number of nods to how ludicrous the series was, where the plots of some episodes are reeled off and called far-fetched nonsense.
There are a number of ridiculous things which just annoyed me, such as:
Leaving the whole beach unattended while they hold a silly trainee qualification course (really, they could have used a little of the budget to pretend someone would be watching the beach)
The Rock starts off all laughs and then just becomes unbearably serious and pious
Special effects - eg Efron riding his motorbike along the pier - just seemed cheap and badly executed
The American Pie humour which seemed more like a different director had come along and added these scenes on - it really was incongruous at times.
Zac Efron's character refuses to do the obstacle course and instead Mitch offers him an alternative one - if Efron wins he gets the trainee job, if he doesn't he doesn't. Mitch wins, but Efron gets the job anyway, rather than all the other people who did well in the obstacle course. It kind of felt like they had intended a redemption scene where he got back in the good books (not the scene where he drove a motorbike over the pier and failed to save the drowning children) but ran out of time in the edit.

That being said, it was watchable and, while a bit too long for a silly film (which took itself too seriously at times) was funny and entertaining.
