Merissa (12051 KP) rated Cato (Fueled By Lust #3) in Books

Luna, my heart goes out to her. Abuse isn't just physical and unless you've been on the receiving end of mental abuse you will have no idea how crippling it can be. I thought Celeste made Luna's story absolutely heartrending.
Cato has had me in tears - both with Cato's emotions and with Luna's story. It is an absolutely superb book that I really can't recommend highly enough.
The thing that really ties it all up for me into one of the best erotic sci-fi series I have ever read is the attention to the timeline and all the details of the world and the men. The mannerisms and sayings that we take for granted that can be misconstrued... and frequently are by the 'newbies' that arrive. I love how the ending of one book leads into the start of the next.
There are so many stories I have yet to hear, I hope that Celeste has more than a couple of tales left to tell in this series!

I felt like this movie did live up to most of the hype. The comedy made it not so painful to watch the abuse, and I did feel awful for her. Margot Robbie was fantastic as Harding, and Sebastian Stan was completely creepy as Gillooly. Allison Janney did similarly well as Tonya's mother. Overall, I was pleased with it. The last act did drag on a bit, but I didn't mind.

Things I liked about the book: The psychology behind the main characters, the use of conditioning, and how fast of a read it was.
Things I didn't like about the book: Sexual Assault, Stockholm Syndrome, and the stupidity of the characters.
The book has a different kind of plot and it is very dark compared to other novels that I have read. The main character is kidnapped, held hostage, forced into sexual experiences. This book frustrated me in the fact that BDSM does NOT equal abuse, or rape. Safe, Sane, and Consensual are the three things that don't really make an appearance.

WHERE WOLF? THERE WOLF! THERE CASTLE!
I really liked this book! Mia is a likable strong character who dealt with horrible abuse.
Then her abuser is attacked by a werewolf.
Suddenly she's taken to a school to train in fighting werewolves and discovers the things she thought were good may not be.
So. I really did like this book but there were a few things that struck me as off.
A character is very upset at the idea of werewolf hunting. Another character doesn't even consider that they could be a werewolf.
It's strange because this character was shown to be pretty intelligent before that.

I never really cared one way or the other about Elisabeth Moss, however having enjoyed her performance in @The Kitchen (2019), I was very much looking forward to seeing what she could do with this movie - and she did not disappoint; she was entirely believable as the terrified, battered wife. And it was SO FRUSTRATING when other characters didn't believe her.
The concept is terrifying when you think about it - that an abuser has figured out how to be invisible in order to continue the abuse? *shudder* That alone is horror enough.
