Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated The Island in Books

I seem to be attracted to dark/abusive books lately, having just read the Dark Duet trilogy, and loving them.
This had me captivated from the start wondering where Shaw really came into the story. He wasn't like the others and his lighter side was a relief compared to the darkness of the others. It was how he reacted to seeing Lee being abused that endeared him to me.
I really felt for Lee at times, having to cope with the abuse he was suffering while trying to hold himself together and stay sane. And how he clung to the bits of kindness he was shown by Shaw.
P.S. Being British, I'm not sure we get sand dollars on our beaches (if I'm wrong, correct me by all means) but I have the urge to collect them now. I looked them up on Google and they look really pretty.

Um...i don't know how to put my feelings into words about this one. The beginning bit was hard to read. I think this is the first book where domestic abuse has been described and happened in detail for me and I didn't enjoy reading it. Mia had such a shitty life at the start.
I liked Jordan a lot. He's the kind of guy I like my girls to get with in romances. Looks like a bad arse but is really a great guy once you get to know him.
Another thing I liked was that it wasn't set in a school/college environment like most other new adult books but at the same time, I kinda missed that element of football games, meeting after classes, sorority/fraternity parties... Yeah, I'm hard to please where NA books are concerned simply because I've read so many.
P.S. I love Dozer!

Whilst this is predominantly part of a comical and erotic driven romance series, there is something sweet about this edition to the series. It allows this kind genuine man, surrounded by his "family" of ice hockey players and their partners, getting the girl of his dreams, a girl who will nurture and support him even on his darkest days. But will it be smooth running? Will it be a happy ending?
Helena Hunting again demonstrates her sense of humour and wickedness with Pucked Off, leaving the reader in stitches whilst their heart melts. Really enjoyed this story and couldn't think of a cuter pair!
