Awix (3310 KP) rated The Evil of Frankenstein (1964) in Movies

It's (not really) alive!
Hammer's third Frankenstein movie is basically a soft reboot, disregarding the continuity of the first two. Down-on-his-luck Baron F (Cushing) rediscovers frozen body of his original monster (Kingston), doesn't really think through consequences of hiring someone called Zoltan the Evil Hypnotist (Woodthorpe) to help with monster-wrangling duties as he prepares to try and restore his reputation.
Hammer won the rights to reuse much imagery from the 1930s Universal Frankenstein series (that said, the monster looks more like an Easter Island statue than Boris Karloff); in their delight at this coup they seem to have forgotten to come up with a proper story for this film. Cushing is given a run for his money by the underrated character actor Peter Woodthorpe; in the end the parts are competently assembled but the spark of life remains elusive. Title seems a little harsh, as Frankenstein is certainly more sinned against than sinning on this occasion: poor choice of staff hardly constitutes 'evil', if you ask me.

Fantastic data base
I downloaded the IMDB app to my phone some time ago, and it gets used regularly by my husband and myself.
Although the site includes data on the majority of tv and film programs that have been made/ shown, I primarily use it to find out more about the actors/ actresses.
Ratings of programmes and films are a good indication of the quality of what you are watching and at times have enticed me into watching a film that I may otherwise have ignored.
At times there has been information missing from the site (e.g. overviews for lesser known or new releases), which although understandable as a result of the size of the project, can be a little frustrating to the user who becomes reliant on having the information at hand. There are also a few user additions to overviews, which I have found can be more thorough than the IMDB ones, however a small number so have inaccuracies.

Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated Walk With Me by Rotimi in Music
Jun 18, 2019
Rotimi is a singer and actor from Maplewood, New Jersey. Not too long ago, he released a music video for his tropical R&B single, entitled, “Love Riddim”.
“Wish I could start it over. Baby, I need you over. Wish I could taste, kiss you down by your waist. He treats you wrong. Wish I could show you, love. Wish I could make you know it. Baby, you need to know it” – lyrics
‘Love Riddim’ tells a sensual tale of a young guy who is skilled at touching the right spots on the lower parts of a desirable female’s body.
Apparently, the woman in question has a boyfriend, but he doesn’t make her go “Oh-ooh ooh-oh” as her lover does.
Therefore, she creeps discreetly with her lover during the nighttime hours. Also, her mind travels elsewhere when he touches her down below.
‘Love Riddim’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and vibey instrumentation flavored with tropical, afrobeat, and contemporary R&B elements.

Quite ingeniously keeping a large chunk of the actors carried over from the movie 'Aliens' this was one of the better modern day vampire movies.
One thing that you will notice straight off the bat and that's the budget which is incredibly low and it shows mainly through its lack of locations and lots of reasonably well written dialogue, what I dont get is this films rise to classic status.... it's ok at best considering its cast and i remember having watched it not being able work out if i liked it as much as others who raved about it.
I am and was a big fan of Bill Paxton however I felt he overcooked his role a little and went from hugely intimidating to a parody of most of the characters he has played over the years.
Adrian Pasdar who I believe is a versatile actor was the best thing in the movie.
I understand this movie has somewhat of a following, it's not one I find myself revisiting however, and Bigelow has gone on to create some very good films.

Irving Did it Better

Couldn’t write a proper heading without mentioning the headless. I enjoy all incarnations of Sleepy Hollow and Alice in Wonderland better than this half-developed plot. Like Gabriel Byrne, the movie had so much potential, but what exactly is it doing there? They could have gotten a bargain actor for all the lack of dialogue Byrne’s character had. And the creepy little girl could have been used so much more as a jump scare and plot device, she was decapitated so early on that it seemed pointless. It was a long movie but it didn’t focus on one horrific vision, it was really kind of all over the place. There was a heavy creepiness factor in certain scenes that could have been explored more, like during the fun and funky family seance. Toni Collette’s performance was very compelling, however. It finally unified a bit at the end but I found it anticlimactic. And a bit less focused on the hereditary and more about bringing back some rando hell lord.
Nick Beaty (70 KP) rated The Vanishing (2018) in Movies

Peter Mullan is brilliant again...
Based on the true story of three lighthouse keepers who mysteriously disappeared in 1900. This is the writers interpretation of the events that occurred, as nobody knows the truth to what actually happened to the three men on the Flannan Isles.
The movie is really slow paced and quiet, so some people may find it a bit boring. For me though the acting is top notch, which is enough to keep you interested in the story.
The ever reliable Peter Mullan is brilliant again and Gerard Butler is actually really good in this one and proves he does have range as an actor.
One negative for me was that some of the more violent scenes in the movie didn't really match the tempo of the film and felt a little bit out of place. I understand that these things had to happen but I just felt they could have been done a little better.
To sum up The Vanishing is a decent enough movie but I can't help but feel it could have been much much more.

Gareth von Kallenbach (977 KP) rated Hercules (2014) in Movies
Aug 6, 2019
Dwayne “no longer the Rock” Johnson shares his acting skills with the world again.
Action star, sure; drama star, not so much.
In this graphic novel adaptation Hercules is made out to be a questionable
demi-god. With a spectacular retelling of his legendary labors, the story begins
showing Hercules as a sword-for-hire. His band of mercenaries helps him use the fame
to intimidate enemies and garner business.
Haunted by his past, the loss of Alcmene and 3 children, Hercules is offered his
weight in gold to save a kingdom from a tyrant.
Hercules sets off on his quest, hoping soon to be done with it all and retire on a
remote island to live out his days.
This star studded cast lends some great acting skill, Johnson withstanding, to the
big screen. The action will entertain, and the humor will grant a chuckle.
I found the story compelling, but I also feel like humor and the main actor were
Worth seeing but probably better suited for an at-home viewing.

Sarah (7798 KP) rated John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) in Movies

More of the same
I'm not a massive fan of the John Wick films, I don't hate them but I don't particularly love them either. Mostly because of Keanu Reeves' acting. I know this isnt the kind of film that requires Oscar worthy acting, but even with a limited script Keanu Reeves is pretty dire.
This third instalment is more of the same and picks up from where the second film left off. The fight choreography is pretty decent and it was nice to see more of the concierge, and some new faces in Jerome Flynn, Mark Dacascos and Angelica Huston. Plot wise this is fairly thin but then that's not really a surprise, as the main purpose of this film is the action. It's just a shame that this isnt really anything new and the whole film is on for way too long. There's only so many action scenes they can drag out.
Honestly this just isn't my kind of film. I can appreciate the action elements, but man Keanu Reeves is a terrible actor.
