Saw this years ago in the Ludlow summer festival, they had the staging set up in the castle, which was a fab setting. Scene with the night's watch was brilliant - they had a dog on a rope lead which, whilst the actor was saying his part was walking around and around him tying him up, actors on stage were trying their hardest not to laugh, but the audience were in hysterics so eventually none of them could stay straight-faced. Actor got himself disentangled, they carried on as if nothing had happened, excellent production.

"This film is the most ambitious failure. I love Tati as an actor, and I love the way the scenes are made; they’re so intelligent and funny, and the timing is fantastic in each and every moment. It has a Chaplin-like precision. But it’s also a black hole that sucks energy from the audience. I also really love his short films, like the one where he’s teaching actors how to walk into a wall properly. For me, Tati took acting to a level comparable to sports. His performances are very direct, and you can see his skill as an actor."

"A brilliant insight into perhaps our greatest actor. I have read nearly every book about Brando but Mizruchi is the first to dissect his method and his talent in a way I have never seen anyone accomplish, including the subject himself. With access to archives never before shared by Brando’s estate, the reader will discover just how he managed to navigate the film industry as the first great actor to become a movie star. Fascinating, not only for people in the film industry, but for anyone who might be interested in this captivating, enigmatic and legendary performer."

"I think, since we’re on Peter Sellers, Being There has always been very, very close to me. I just love that film. I love everything about it. I love what it said. I love his performance and the whole thing of doing the outtakes when Sellers was laughing. There’s a wonderful thing — terrific actor whose name I do not know, he runs the elevator in the mansion there. And at one point Sellers gets on the elevator. The first time he gets on, he says, “This is a very small room,” and it makes the guy laugh. At any rate, there’s one where Sellers gets on the elevator and the actor bricks; he starts laughing before anyone says anything. It’s just that what they were doing was so funny, and Sellers was so funny, this actor bursts out laughing and then composes himself. It’s all in character, and yet it’s all completely genuinely him. It’s one of my favorites."

"I rented this film by mistake when I was 15 with my brother. They told us it was a scary movie. It pretty much made me want to be an actor. Al Pacino will break your heart. And Gene Hackman will break your other heart."

Harriet (2019)
Harriet (2019)
2019 | Biography, Drama, History

"We out.” That is the Harriet Tubman quote emblazoned on my favorite T-shirt. Did she ever really say it? Probably not. But what is so dope about the conceit is that it distills her heroism so acutely, that you feel it in our now. That is the beauty of the film “Harriet.” The performance of Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman is so sharp and nuanced that this mythic, historical figure becomes real. We feel Harriet’s fierce devotion to love, family, and womanhood viscerally. Cynthia Erivo is a striking actress. But great performances do not happen in a vacuum. Kasi is known as an “actor’s director,” and her skill shines throughout the film. The connection between artist and actor is palpable. You feel their trust of one another. Their shared singular focus of Kasi’s vision. A great director guides, pushes, nourishes, steps back. They provide the tools upon which an actor can build. And oh, what tools Kasi provided in costumes, production design, location and voluminous research. Crafting a performance with an actor is the most important job of a director. It starts with trust, and creating a space in which an actor feels safe enough to give you everything. Cynthia gave Kasi everything and we are better for it. We watch an extraordinary woman live, love and fight, and leave the theater inspired."

Epic
This was way better than I expected it to be. I'm not that keen on Tom Hardy, but he did exceptionally well as his character. Venom is hilarious and I love the anti hero concept of the character.
