"A beautiful film about Charlie Parker, played brilliantly by Forest Whitaker, and directed by an actor who’s obviously a big jazz fan. Bird really shows you how ludicrously gifted Parker was, how his mind worked on a completely different level, but also how much he got lost in self-loathing, and how addiction made everything fall apart. Parker was 34 when he died, but the coroner thought he was 60, looking at his body. By getting into the New York club scene and looking at aspects of racism, this film also shows just how much Parker achieved, given everything he was fighting against."

"Ha, back in the day? What first made me want to get out there and tear it up and just have fun doing it? One dude: Herbie. Nobody cracked me up like Herbie. It wasn’t about being slick, or about what tires you had, or about track conditions and temperatures and all the stuff we gotta think about these days. It was about putting on a number and having some good old-fashioned fun. I wanted to BE Herbie when I watched that for the first time! Greatest actor in the world, if you ask me."

Lots of great action and yes it's a bit light on the story, but it's not completely terrible. It's a fun popcorn movie and if you're a fan of the Mortal Kombat games like me, it's not a bad ride. I did love Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion because he's a really talented actor and he made the role work for him. It was disappointing that there's some characters missing like Johnny Cage, but maybe we'll get to see him in the sequel. If you take it for what it is, pure entertainment it's a good film.
