Was for a younger audience (0 more)
This book was enjoyable but definitely for a different audience. I felt like the way it was written, the actual story line and the main characters in the book it was probably aimed at teenagers.
When I read the blurb it seemed like a book I would normally read and it was a mystery but as I mentioned it was for a younger audience. So I would recommend the book to the audience it was aimed at. It was an easy reading book.
I still got into the book as I kept guessing who the perpetrator was and therefore it did turn into a page turner for me.
I learnt more about the characters as the book went on and my thoughts on them changed.
This book was part of a series and the only reason I didn't read the other books in the story was because it was bit too young for me.
I like more adult crime/mystery books.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.

"Flawless again. She's a poet! I knew who she was, she was in my peripheral, but I discovered her, god, maybe ten years ago. The beauty of being in your 30s is the beauty of being able to admit that you didn't hear The Wipers first. Or that you knew the Hole version of 'Credit In A Straight World' before you knew the Young Marble Giants version. When you're 20 you're a little more self-conscious about it. But yeah, and I'm glad that I had a relationship with her as an adult. I didn't grow up listening to her as a teenager at all. In Arkansas she wasn't on the radio. God, that's another record where every song is my favourite song. 'Kimberly'? My god. 'Free Money'? I don't even know where to start. It's poetry set to music and it's done so well. Other people have tried to do that and it doesn't really work and she just really pulled it off in a way that was beautiful and not trying too hard. She's effortlessly cool and she gets cooler."

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy

Initially, I wasn't entirely sure how to feel about this book. It felt a little immature for a book that really could have been new adult with the age of the characters. I come from a YA background and prior to this year, I read almost exclusively YA contemporaries so I don't know if I've just outgrown the genre or if this book just wasn't written well in that aspect. I found a lot of the characters fairly lacklustre despite their opulence and generally didn't care much for the plot. It was still an enjoyable read and while it took me a while to really get into I found myself really enjoying it by the end. I loved the relationship between Gemma and Eric though, that was definitely the stand out for me and I found myself reading mainly to get to more of their scenes. I'd possibly consider continuing with this series as I'm interested to see where the story goes.

I was hooked from early on with this, the authors way of writing was different to other young adult authors. Maybe it was the fact that Violet was turning seventeen right at the start and therefore we had none of the sometimes annoying sixteen year old stuff that is in others.

That being said, Violet did manage to annoy me in regard to Lincoln on various occasions throughout but now I've finished the book I know it wasn't all her own doing, not at the end anyway.

I was Team Lincoln from the start (I seem to have this thing about picking the first guy mentioned in books, unless he's an arse of course) and fascinated by Violet's reaction to him. Then we met him and I think I sighed a little, because he seemed rather dreamy.

Phoenix on the other hand was a little iffy from the start. He seemed too good to be true and always a little dark, to me.

After the ending I'm interested to see where things go and will be starting Entice soon.
