Erika (17789 KP) rated Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Vol 1: The Crucible in Books

First, I need to say, I have a serious problem with how long it took for all of the issues contained in this book to come out. The first issues did so well, then there was a long hiatus. I love Archie Comics, but it was a serious misstep by them.
Anyway, Chilling Adventure of Sabrina is a horror comic, and nothing like the more recent Sabrina stories. It's more like the first years of Sabrina, where she would torture mortals and all of that. It's a darker comic, and yeah, some of it is disturbing, but it's worth a read. I love how Betty and Veronica make a cameo as witches.

Troubled Civil War veteran Tom Cruise goes off to Japan to train their new modern-style army just after the Meiji restoration; winds up being allowed to become a samurai despite not quite meeting the minimum height requirement.
Clearly wants to be a lavish Dances With Wolves-style epic drama; works well enough as a historical adventure with some well-staged action sequences, but not quite as moving or powerful as it would really like. Every Japanese person I know who's seen this movie seems to think it's supposed to be a hilarious deadpan comedy. Someone should tell Cruise it's bad manners to organise a kamikaze charge and not die alongside everyone else.

I was pleasantly surprised by this. I had a feeling it was aimed at a young audience but actually it's pretty good for the whole family. There are great effects scenes with some of the Greek mythology creatures doing battle with the demi gods. It felt like Clash of the Titans but set in modern day America, crossed with National Treasure. It has a great cast, although some have very short screen time. It whizzed by at a good pace, with plenty of action, cheesey humour and some decent action effects. I wouldn't call it a Potter or Narnia clone but if you like those sort of adventure films you can't go wrong with this!

Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated Interview with the Vampire (The Vampire Chronicles, #1) in Books

I tried to read this about 5 years ago and I put it down because I simply disliked Louis and thought him to be too human. I'm glad that I finally picked this book up again.
I realize now that I was too immature to really enjoy all that this book had to offer. Anne Rice is an amazing author who can write a story that engrosses you. I read this book in less than 4 days and I will most definitely read the rest of this series.
This book makes you think of what you would do and how you would react. It takes you on a fantastical adventure that leaves you satisfied yet wanting more.

Emotional yet exciting read.
Okay, why did I wait to pick this series up. Seriously. It's just so good! Sarah J. Maas just knows how to pull at your heart strings and every emotion known to man (and woman). I cried, I cursed at the characters, I was happy. I was not expecting this serious to be held dearly to my heart so soon. But only being a book in, this is a series that I will read over and over again. Well-written, great plot, a great background of the characters. I can't wait to see where Celaena's adventure takes her!
So much potential...
I read this book as it was recommended for those who enjoyed the book Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. The story had all the elements of a book I should love - fantasy, adventure, a challenge, a bit of romance, but I did not enjoy the book as I thought I would. I world Garber attempted to create wasn't fully developed. Where she tried to exude mystery and intrigue felt more like plot holes and underdeveloped ideas. The characters made extreme choices that didn't feel realistic, specifically the protagonist's sister. Overall, the book fell flat for me. It has all the potential in the world, but it fizzled.

great cast
I really liked this movie! I was surprised at first. I'm not a Lego fan and I didn't understand how they could make it into a movie but I am so glad I gave it a chance. It is the right mix of adventure and comedy, something unique when you're thinking about a kid's movie.
My kids loved the main character and ran around singing the "Everything is Awesome" song for weeks after and I couldn't even be annoyed because that song is freaking catchy!
I would call this movie a must watch for parents of kids from about preschool age and up. Any younger and they won't really be drawn into it.

I have always enjoyed Peter S. Beagle's short fiction books and these definitely are worth it. Even his attempt at the steampunk genre is pretty good. Some of these stories are a little on the dark side and slightly horror, however, you also get some action and adventure. It is a great way to visit some of his established worlds like The Last Unicorn and Inn Keeper's Song as well as find something new. Worlds that treat dragon's like guard dogs for drugs and the police that find them or a world that has humans communicating with aliens via a computer. It is a great travel from High Fantasy to futuristic Sci-Fi.

Beautiful lesson
A beautifully done addition to the Toy Story saga.
You always worry when they dig up old property to make a new film. Will they do it justice? Will they be true to the original? Is there really a need for another movie? Toy Story answers all these questions with a resounding YES! The original toys, along with some new additions, are brought back for a new adventure that hits all the notes that you love about the series. The laughs are there, as are the tears. A beautiful new chapter is added to the toys' saga as is the beautiful underlying lessons and morals of the story. Truly well done.

CGI
Enjoyable, but unoriginal.
Contains spoilers, click to show
The film is described as an adventure to save the island from a volcano, but it soon turns into exactly the same as the first Jurassic World film: genetic engineering, made-up dinosaur out of control etc.
The cast is good, Chris Pratt is excellent as ever, but unfortunately he is the only redeeming feature.
The story, as mentioned, is dull and a repeat of the first Jurassic World, but another disappointment is the use of CGI. Somehow, 25 years after the original Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs have become less realistic, moving down from high quality animatronics to average quality CGI, taking away all the charm.
