Rolling Stone's 56th greatest album of all time
Elvis' debut album, mainly consisting of covers (Carl Perkins' Blue Suede Shoes, Little Richard's Tutti Frutti and Ray Charles' I Got a Woman among them). A decent album but a sign of style over substance for what was to come. He was definitely a performer, there is no denying that.

Rolling Stone's 359th greatest album of all time
Great typical 70s rock album, quite a folk/country flavour as well as John's trademark rock and roll style. The only well known song here is the epic Rocket Man, but the rest fits well with the style of that and the album is a really good listen.

Rolling Stone's 304th greatest album of all time
I'd always avoided listening to this album because it is almost like you're not allowed to not like it. The slightly obsessive cult status of the album made me worried to express my opinion on something I knew I wouldn't like. Ah to hell with it:
Dreary crap.
Dreary crap.

Rolling Stone's 269th greatest album of all time
I wanted to love this album. However, the production of it (the guitar being too loud in the mix and generally just atmospheric noise, and the vocals being quite subdued) made it quite far from my tastes and expectations. An OK album but not my cup of tea.

Rolling Stone's 255th greatest album of all time
Simply a superb album. The likes of The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters can be enjoyed by anyone. The rest of the album is generally a lot heavier and may take different tastes. Wherever I May Roam, Sad But True and Enter Sandman are simply fantastic metal songs.
Rolling Stone's 252nd greatest album of all time
Decent hip hop album, though a fair amount of filler in my mind. "Izzo (HOVA)" was by far the best track on the album. I find it annoying that every single song includes the record label "Roc-a-fella" for no apparent reason, like some odd trademark or copyright watermark.
Rolling Stone's 393rd greatest album of all time
Superb rap and modern "world music" album, featuring the awesome Paper Planes (sampling the Clash's Straight to Hell) and another standout track 20 Dollar, which takes excerpts from Pixies' Where Is My Mind?
Including a range of Indian and African inspirations and MIA's phenomenal vocals, this is a really interesting album.

Rolling Stone's 390th greatest album of all time (449th in the 2020 list)
Great album by the White Stripes, featuring the anthemic Seven Nation Army (used as many football / leftist politician chants), and the excellent Hardest Button to Button and Girl You Have No Faith In Medicine. The rest of the album is pretty decent too.
