The alien itself
Unoriginal but a decent ending
Let's face It, the premise of this film isn't exactly original. How many times have we seen supposed scientists meddle with alien life forms with horrific results?

The story is completely unoriginal, not very suspenseful and I found the lifeform itself to be very unthreatening not sinister in the slightest. Calling it Calvin didn't help either with the fear factor. The only thing I liked was the ending, as for once I didn't see it coming. Whether this was just due to boredom setting in by then I won't know for certain.

HG Wells seminal tale of alien invasion, that has laid the template for many an alien invasion movie afterwards (and I'm paraphrasing here):

"There's no war between us and them, any more than there is between us and ants"

Victorian set, and told mainly through the eyes of a journalist who witnesses all the events, from the arrival of the Martians through to their attack and eventual defeat (I'll give nothing away here how, except to say that the movie Independence Day tried an updated version of the same solution), this is also - or so legend says - responsible for mass panic in the States when the radio adaptation was first broadcast.

Alien invasions, cyborgs, clones, zombie infestations and scientific experiments gone horribly, horribly wrong.

These are just some of the delights you can look forward to as Movie Pilot takes a look at the best new and upcoming Sci-Fi movies 2017 and some from 2018 has to offer.

2017 holds plenty of uncertainty, but great sci-fi movies look like a sure thing. Movie Pilot has walked through the biggest sci-fi releases of the year:
