John Goodman's character was my favorite, by far, and you could tell that not everything was as it seemed. I liked the Trojan Horse analogy, which is very apt for the plot. You can kind of figure out what's going on, and as the banner photo shows, you know John Goodman's character eventually goes down to the tunnels.
Overall, it was a different, refreshing movie and well worth a watch.

And this.
Which largely seems to be forgotten.
In this, Cruise plays security repairman Jack Harper, stationed on Earth (after the defeat of an alien invasion) in order to repair drones that look after massive machinery from the remnants of the defeated alien foe.
Or so he initially believes.
Until he rescues a stranger from a downed spacecraft - a woman he has never met yet has recurring dreams of.
So, what we have, really, is a sci-fi mystery where Cruise (of course) sprints, rides motorbikes and tries to make sense of it all!

This is set 20 years after that original (and was also released 20 years after it), with Earth having survived the first alien attack and now having combined alien tech with our own. With most of the original cast returning - bar Will Smith, whose cost (I expect) wa too much - this moves the focus onto the younger generation, who have grown up in the shadow of that original invasion.
It also ends in an absolute set-up for a sequel (or series): to date, no sign of that happening as that is pretty much the epitome of a 'meh' movie.
