There are a couple of late Kurosawa movies that impressed me but I doubt I could make it through them again.

Fun watch
Another old one I've never seen. Sooo cheesy all around but still a fun movie. Lots of fake blood, silly trinkets and bodies exploding. The acting was on par for a 90s movie-full of cheesy one liners. The story was also what you'd expect from a 90s vampire flick- lack of real emotion but full of weakly choreographed action sequences. If you've ever seen a "Tales from the Crypt" show/movie you'll like this one, too. Worth a watch.

I loved the movie of this book. Of course, there is always a danger when reading a book before you see the movie that the movie will be a disappointment. And sometimes the opposite is also true. In this case, I have to say that for me, the latter was what happened in my case. You can read why in my review here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2013/11/11/tasty-but-not-scrumptious/

"I will give you Unfinished Piece for the Player Piano. Oh, it’s a great movie. It’s a Russian movie; [Nikita] Mikhalkov is the director, and it’s a Checkhov play, really — it’s based on Platonov. Chekhov is unbelievably difficult to do, to capture the mood, to capture the humor, the incredible sadness and pathos of the characters, all that. It’s very rare that you see a great production of Checkhov. I saw this when I was rehearsing a production of The Cherry Orchard. The great British director Peter Brook was directing, and he set up a screening of this movie for us. It’s just, it’s also a beautiful movie to look at, and also it was a great director, but it’s the characters, both the acting and the depiction of this wonderful, very specific group of Russian characters is unmatched."

Bad a**
This movie follows a woman seeking revenge for the deaths of her husband and daughter. She first trusts the system to find justice, but after corruption allows the individuals responsible to walk free she takes matters into her own hands.
This is a great movie with lots of action. She's constantly taking out gang members, and she has the police and the gang chasing her throughout the movie. The movie also challenges the viewer to question whether or not her actions are acceptable.

"I guess the first one would be the Mike Leigh movie, Naked. The performances in the movie are so great. David Thewlis — it’s just one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen. And the movie — they improvised to find a script. They improvised for months and months, and then Mike Leigh writes a script based on the improv, and you can tell that it’s come from such a pure place, because it’s natural for all the actors, but it’s also just the — walking around London, and it’s just incredible. And also, my favorite actress of all time is Katrin Cartlidge, and she’s in that movie. She’s ridiculous in it, she’s so good."

Was a decent movie, although many of the scenes were unnecessarily drawn out. Good concept, great actors involved but something was missing for me. Also way way too much nudity XD

"Probably the seminal movie in regards to what it means to be a man in changing times. Hal Ashby is one of the great legends of tone and emotion without it ever feeling too forced. A movie that also argues the important point: “It’s just as easy to get it the way you want.”"
