Pyewacket is a witchy teen angst film, that feels a bit like it wanted to be Ginger Snaps for witches, following the life of a teen girl whose father has recently died, and whose mother is not dealing well with the new reality.
Against her protestations, her mother moves them to a house in the woods, and away from her school and friends and after a heated exchange, the daughter decides to perform a dark ritual in the woods.
The crux of the film is that she later regrets the decision and is haunted by ghostly presences in the house that she suspects are the result of her ritual.
The whole film feels out of time, as if it were a late 90's early 2000's teen horror, with the majority of time spent exploring teen angst and cringey cliched subculture banter, rather than really tyring to ramp up any tension or scare the viewer.
At no point is a bad film, but it is trying to walk the line between genuine horror and that sort of 'The Craft' style teen culture movie, and it just doesnt seem to really nail either.
Its not bad, its not great, its just ok.

UNFORGOTTEN is the second book in the Forgiven series, and this time, the focus is on the brothers - Luke's brother, Billy, and Mia's brother, Gus. They both had a moment in the past, and neither of them has forgotten about it. So what will happen when they start sharing a house and working together?
This is what I would call a high-angst book. There is not a page where there isn't some form of trouble, whether it's between Luke and Billy, Gus and Mia, Luke and Mia, or Billy and Gus! And, oh, for the love of god, will someone please explain how a conversation works to these people?
As with book one, I found this to be brilliantly written, but I was just unable to connect with the characters as I wanted to. Mia still annoys me. I can feel my teeth grinding whenever she is in a scene. I think there was only one where she behaved in a more compassionate way.
I feel this book was better than book one, but I still prefer other books by this author. If you are after a contemporary romance with high angst, then I can definitely recommend this book.

This is what I would call a high-angst book. There is not a page where there isn't some form of trouble, whether it's between Luke and Billy, Gus and Mia, Luke and Mia, or Billy and Gus! And, oh, for the love of god, will someone please explain how a conversation works to these people?

Utterly messed up
After a disappointing teen-angst third series, AHS got back to its best in this series. A truly twisted but generally likable cast of misfits interact wonderfully to give a glimpse into the treatment of travelling freakshows in small-town America. The ring-mistress' desire for fame weighed up against the freaks' desire for mere acceptance adds a delicious conflict that bears fruit in every episode. Meanwhile the freaks are being hunted by someone looking to sell their body parts to a museum, and Twisty the clown is getting frustrated with his unwilling audience's lack of appreciation for his terrifying yet mediocre act.
Thrilling, despicable and horrific in equal measure.

It's been too long
This book has been on my kindle for a good five years or so and it's roughly been that same amount of time since I read TMS so it's been a bit weird coming back to this couple after so long. I remembered certain bits of the first book but not a lot.
I liked this but it didn't have the same intensity that I remembered from the first. I wasn't screaming at my kindle for them to get together and stop being idiots because they're an established, very happy couple. There was very little angst. It was all rather sedate but sex filled.
I am glad that pretty much everyone got their HAE though!

I'm always interested in queer young adult books, and this one especially caught my eye with its mention of "performing mermaids." Because y'all know I love my mermaid books! So Savannah isn't a real mermaid, she just plays one at a water park. But it was enough to make me pick up the book, and it's a good book. Young adult books about discovering your identity are always needed, and this book is about Savannah realizing she's bisexual.
Much of the angst in this book comes from Savannah not knowing if she has the same disease her father does, and she's not sure if she wants to know. Altogether, in this book we have chronic illness, hispanic teens, bisexual, lesbian, and genderqueer teens, small-town angst....there's really a LOT of demographics covered in this book.
I like Savannah, but I don't like her love interest, Leigh, very much. Leigh does NOT have her shit together, and between drinking and doing drugs, all while underage, she poses a very real threat to Savannah's well-being.
I'm a little nonplussed by the ending of the book. It leaves a few questions unanswered, but not in a cliff-hanger-y way. It's more of a possibilities-left-open kind of way. Which makes sense for a "first love" romance. It's not necessarily a "true love" story. It reminds me of John Green novels in that way.
So - it's a great book for representation, but don't expect a tidy, wrapped-up ending. You won't find that here.

LUSTFUL NIGHTS is the first book in the Peaches series and features Lennox and Jensen, plus a whole host of other brilliant characters.
Lennox has gone back to school to get his nursing degree. To support that, he works at Peaches as a dancer a few nights a week. Jensen is Lennox's big brother, Nick's, best friend who gets the shock of a lifetime when he sees Lennox dance, especially because it wakes something up inside him.
This is a fun and sassy low angst story between the two of them. The angst comes into how they tell Nick about their relationship. Lennox has had a bad run of relationships in the past, so his friends are concerned when they find out he's dating someone secretly. Jensen, however, is a cutie-patootie who goes full steam ahead for what, or who, he wants. The thing I loved the most is that although the steam comes off the page for these two, you also get the emotional connection. Jensen is everything Lennox needs, and vice versa.
The pacing is very smooth and all the characters are brilliantly written. It is Preston's turn next and I can't wait to see what happens with him. I really hope Jonas plays a part. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me and I can't wait to read more.
