I read Sundial with my heart in my mouth, horrified, not knowing what could possibly happen next. Honestly, I thought I knew what type of story would be coming my way after reading The Last House on Needless Street, but this is nothing like that, yet at the same time, it’s still totally Catriona Ward! Everything seems a little off kilter, a bit strange. People don’t behave in quite the same way as ‘normal’ people would.
I mean, a bonding experience in the Mojave desert between a mother and her daughter, in the childhood home where her parents experimented on dogs (this is a horror book. Horrible things happen to not just the people, but the animals as well). How could anything possibly go wrong, I ask you!
I hadn’t read horror in quite a while before I read Needless Street, and now I seem to be on a roll. This book reminds me why I read a lot of this genre as a teenager. It’s that feeling of being transfixed, unable to turn away whilst horrific things happen. The mind games as well!
Love, love, loved this.
And now I need to go and read Ward’s backlist, and make sure I read whatever comes next!

My world turned upside down the day six guys, who used to be animals, showed up unexpectedly. My hexad is here, in my world, but not for long. Together, the seven of us have to venture back to Hundred Acres and save their parents and every other paranormal creature out there from Huff.
The problem?
We have no idea how to do either of these things. My mom has come back with us to help but, instead of answering questions, she brings up a whole list of new ones. One thing we do learn is a bond cannot be pushed. The connections I have to each of them is growing, but to force them only leads to disaster.
Can we figure out how to break the curse before it’s too late? Did bringing in my mom help or hinder us? The biggest question of all is: where is Ezra?
This is definitely a quirky book to read and certainly will have you seeing the friends of the 100 acre wood differently! It was a fun little read but didn’t hold as much fun as book 1! If you’re looking for a quick quirky read I’d give it a go although book 3 is still nowhere to be found!

Yes, this is one of the rare paranormal series I read since Frankie has discovered she really can communicate with animals. Since the last couple of books have found Frankie out of town, I enjoyed seeing all the regular haunts this time around. The characters are also fun, although I did have some issues with how Frankie treated Jeff in this book. Likewise, a couple of times, Frankie seemed to know something we hadn’t seen her learn. But both are minor overall. The plot had plenty of viable suspects and some nice surprises before we reached the logical end. Meanwhile, the characters provided plenty of smiles and laughs. If you are looking for a light paranormal cozy, you’ll be glad you picked this book up.

She lives in a tiny flat that appears to be plagued with mould that only worsens after the attack. Whether this is real mould or a physical manifestation of her inner turmoil and distress is uncertain, but when she meets Hélène, a fellow sufferer of her attacker, she takes her up on the offer of moving in with her.
Hélène seems perfect at first, but the main character takes her unease and weird occurrences with her to the new flat. Hélène comes across as manipulative and controlling. In fact there’s a feel of the main character having no control of her own life at any point in this story - right up to the devastating end.
This was a really tense, creepy audiobook, read so well by Anna Burnett - her narration increased the feeling of unease!
A short but really hard-hitting listen.
