Book
Empire of the Vampire ( Empire of the Vampire book 1)
By Jay Kristoff
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise.

For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. Now, only a few tiny sparks of light endure in a sea of darkness.

Gabriel de León, half man, half monster and last remaining silversaint – a sworn brother of the holy Silver Order dedicated to defending the realm from the creatures of the night – is all that stands between the world and its end.

Now imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. A story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the Wars of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanity’s last remaining hope:

The Holy Grail.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved this book! I’ve tried so hard to pace my self and enjoy every word. The world building, the character building, the artwork and the story were just perfect. This book certainly takes you on a journey. It’s kinda gotta some Witcher vibes but Vampires. I could seriously ramble on all day long on how detailed and how heartbreaking Gabriel’s journey is and we see his relationship with Dior develop and we see this stoic hard faced man start to thaw just a touch! The art work is beautiful and enhances the story and vision. This has to be my favourite book of the year so far! The writing was just brilliant and some of the lines were good especially the opening line just brilliant!!

Roma Underground is done well. The author start out with a woman we meet as Bianca N. We do learn a little about her past. Her name is mentioned, as Alabaster Black. You may think well, is that her real name or not? We also meet up with Dante, Alessandro, Farrugia and Gennaro. We also run into a few more people along the way.

What out a bit of a boring start with this story. It does get much better. Somehow this group gets involved with a smuggling artifact. Why is Bianca recruited by “Rendition”? Who are they, and what do they want?

Though you do not know how this group gets brought in to start a hoax? You will just be wandering in the world is going on and what it roughly about. Someone is stealing artifacts or art artifacts that have been going missing. The hoax is started by an idea that is shared by Dante.

You do go about learning about Roma Underground and what happens there along the history of Rome. I can not wait to find out what to happen next in the next book named “Wasp Nest.” This book is worth the reading and it offers so much more.

No spoilers below.

4 stars: Super long, sometimes details about dumb stuff where I wish I had more details about other stuff

4 stars: sometimes hard to imagine some of the scenery.

4 stars: Interludes? what the heck?

5 stars: every 80-100 pages has some sweet art that helps you visualize things

5 stars: incredible world and intriguing story and characters

5 stars: good ups and downs - mix of excitement, sadness, awesomeness, character fails and character growth

1 star (kind of joking but not really): 3rd book isn't out yet!! Plus I have to buy some Arcanum Unbounded to read book 2.5? NO WAY. I'm saving up for the 3rd book haha

overall rating: 5 stars

I would like my wife to read these but the stories are just so dang LONG. I bet if all 3 books were released in an abridged format that I'd re-read them (and get her to read them for once) and it would be so fun to get down to the nitty gritty without going through 1000+ pages per book (although some people are in to that). In this case, I didn't mind it too much, as the writing is well done and the story is awesome. Kaladin is my bro!
