*I received this copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

I'd had this on my "to read" shelf on here for a while and then removed it, thinking that since I very rarely read historical books that I might not enjoy it after all.

What a load of rubbish that was!

The synopsis made me think it would be like the Throne of Glass series and in a way it was; assassin, a bit of romance, but it was also not. This was based on true events and there was a lot of different things happening in relation to the duchy.

I have to admit that the first 10-15% was a bit hard for me to get into. There wasn't too much detail about her time at the abbey and as much as I was interested in what she was learning there that bit started to bore me after a while.

It was only with the arrival of Duval and the sparks they ignited that I really started to get into this. I could tell straight away that something was going to happen there and since I'm a romance reader I was happy that there was the possibility of romance. It was nice reading the slow progression of their relationship as it changed.

As for everyone else; Anne, Isabeau, Beast etc. I grew to really like them. They all added great things to the story.

In relationship to Beast, I would really like to know what happened to him, and I'm hoping I will find the answers to that in the next book in the series.

If you like stories of assassins and romance then you'll more than likely like this.

I like the AC series a lot and while there are some that I like better than others like Origins, I do enjoy playing each one. I was excited for Valhalla and getting to play Eivor as either female or male was really cool to me. I liked the premise of the story and the setting. I thought the differences with the skill system and armor sets was refreshing. The combat is a lot of fun and I enjoyed the various side quests and mini games. However, I do feel that the story was not as strong as Origins and Odyssey. It was a darker story sure, but given the events in the 9th century that makes sense. However, I felt it was missing a little something. While I liked Eivor there were side characters that were part of the story I came to like and care about more. The ending felt a bit unfinished and I felt a little disappointed. There's also the issue with constant bugs where quests wouldn't load properly, Eivor would get stuck on things, or weird clipping issues in the game. There are also far too many game crashes. I learned to save my game often because I never knew if there would be a game crash around the corner. It feels like perhaps they should not have released the game yet until they got these issues sorted. It's disappointing because I feel the game could have been great instead of just good, but the tech issues really hindered it. CONRAD is the fourth and final book in the Assassin's To Order series and... NO! Just, NO!!! This can't be the final book. It just can't. There's still a brother that needs to find love, plus I need the details of Wyatt and James, so NO!!!

These authors really love to stomp all over my heart. I know they'll do it, but I just can't seem to help myself when it comes to reading their stories. Conrad is the most jovial of the brothers and yet is also the one to never give up control. When he finds his mate in Kylo, he is all in. He trusts Fate, simple as that. I did wonder about Kylo as he is quite highly strung in previous books, but I needn't have worried. Conrad knew how to calm him down!

I loved how the overall story arc came to a satisfying end, plus there is a specific scene when Kylo takes care of Conrad that I found both heartrending and absolutely beautiful!

I'm just not prepared to say goodbye to these guys. I loved the Thalassas and am so glad I read their stories, but I'm afraid the Assassins have knocked them off their perch. Don't get me wrong, I still love all the Krakens, but these guys... And Ekon hasn't got anyone yet! Don't leave him alone. He broke my heart. 😭 He needs to find his mate, PLEASE!

Absolutely brilliant and HIGHLY recommended by me. Just... please... don't leave me hanging. Bring the boys back and let Ekon find happiness!
